There have been a good number of posts about Lacy closing with the words, "I hope I'm wrong..." Pretty much slamming the guy for Alabama having a good OL to run behind, having multiple 1000 yds running backs, having a hamstring injury at the combine and his pro day, him being " out of shape," having the toe fusion, questioning his willingness to play, etc. "Bust..."

I didn't make that up.

Just kind of blew me away when he was regarded as THE top RB in this draft. He certainly had no problems starting and playing well in all but 1 game over 2 years, helping his team to win a National Championship.

For some reason, Eddie Lacy seemed to not get a whole lot of respect in quite a lot of comments here and elsewhere. The guy has proven himself to be one of the toughest RBs in this draft. If fears about his toe fusion or a pulled hammy kept other teams from drafting him, well thank God for that!

How many other players we just drafted have had their injuries scrutinized so heavily? None.

Eddie Lacy seems like a gamer, and I wish him well in tearing through our opponent's secondaries!

Look at Chicagos line, Minesotas line, Matt Forte and AP still are productive with not the greatest line in the world. Not saying Eddie is anywhere near as good as those players. But Lacy is not just a runner that benefited from a good line.. I don't think the Packers would draft a player that had no ablity and just ran through holes that were always there and think he'd be a good fit for the team.

Any football player who plays at a high level (Major D1 Conferences and the Pros) is going to have some kind of nagging injuries during the season. Most don't get mentioned in the press.

I think more than anything steveishere, that speaks to his high level of proficiency. We got a very well rounded, tough, experienced RB. And, they didn't call him "Spin Bot" for nothing! I can't wait to see him bust some of THOSE moves!!!

This draft could prove to have been Epic!

Think about adding Lacy & Franklin to our already extremely potent offense. Then think about what Datone Jones, Josh Boyd, and a healthy Nick Perry and Desmond Bishop will do for our D...

I see us now being a formidable team to contend for the Lombardi Trophy. Hopefully we can keep everyone healthy and realize the dream, again and again. We needed a true power back to punish our opponent's defenses. Lacy is that back.

I don't see what everyone else sees in the guy, just like I didn't see what everyone else years ago seen in Ron Dayne. Between an offensive line that had two guys in the top what 15 drafted just this year, his list of aliments to the lower half of his body over the course of his college career (big man and a running back with leg issues is not a great combo) and what many describe as a questionable commitment to the game. The last one being of the least of my concerns as it can be subjective to the author with the leg issues being chief.

What has been on the biggest problems for the Packers the last 5 years? It isn't talent.. it is keeping guys available and on the field. Lacy stayed on the field in college, but if he was getting nicked up in that level, what do you think his chances of getting banged up with guys that are faster and larger?

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck.. it very well might be a duck.

Is it the worst pick in the world or even this draft, nope. But at a time where we need to reload a bit on the roster and for the most part stay healthy, I just don't favor the pick. And I state it.. that is not slamming that is offering an opinion.

I want him to change that personal opinion I hold.. absolutely, but you jumping up and down in a rant because I am not in love with the pick.. that ain't doing shit. lol.

Running Inside the Tackles

Comparing Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy in their final seasons at Alabama:

Richardson

Lacy

Rush PG 16.5 9.4
Yds PG 84.3 71.2
Yds per rush 5.1 7.6<<
20+ yd rush 10 13

>>8.7 with 7 or fewer defenders in box
Source: ESPN Stats & Information

Since numbers are being thrown around I figured this might be interesting. Lacy averaged 2.6 more yards per carry than Richardson running inside the tackles.

We all wanted a guy that could pound the rock. Richardson goes #3 and Lacy #61. I'm going to call it a great pick until he proves me wrong.

And even if he doesn't start right away he can sure punch that sucker in the endzone for us. Which is what I most admired about this guy, and we've haven't had a RB do that for us in quite a while. Micheal turner is what I hope this guy can translate to. He can be our 3rd down back. And with Franklin sharing the load there's endless possibilitys for this offense.

Just saying "well he had a great line" means nothing. Did he have a good line? Yes. Was he constantly running though wide open holes every game? No.

I agree, Lacy should and will share carries in Green Bay, and of course, regardless how good he is, it is a pass first team. I also agree, the line thing doesn't mean much. In Green Bay, he will have a lot more element of surprise on the run as well as fewer guys on D in the box. That more than makes up for the great 'Bama line. What will separate Lacy, I hope, from Dayne and other not so great runners is the ability to cut at least a little bit. Power alone isn't enough in the NFL; Same for speed. We know he can break tackles, but he will need to avoid some also to be great. And he damn well better be able to pass block.

dfosterf (10-Aug) : Just gotta figure out how.
dfosterf (10-Aug) : Could have been a worse start, so there is that.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Zero- Did you see what I posted about Voice of Reason and his wife? She posted over at fleaflicker that they are both "In"
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Well, not crazy, it makes sense. Crazy I didn't notice/find it earlier
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : it's crazy how one stored procedure to get data bogged everything down for speed here
dfosterf (7-Aug) : to herd cats or goldfish without a bowl. They reminded me of the annual assembly of our fantasy league

dfosterf (7-Aug) : Yesterday my wife and I spent the afternoon on the waterfront here in Alexandria, Va. A daycare company took about 15 three/four year olds
wpr (7-Aug) : seems faster. yay
dfosterf (7-Aug) : Wife of reason posted on the in/out thread on fleaflicker that both she and vor are in
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : This page was generated in 0.135 seconds.
Mucky Tundra (7-Aug) : Tbh, I can never tell the difference in speed unless it's completely shitting the bed
Zero2Cool (7-Aug) : Sure does feel like site is more snappy
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him
Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : found bad sql in database, maybe site faster now?
dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : *to be able
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : and because it's not a dynasty league (which makes a lot more sense to be ability to trade picks)
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Oh I know; I was just exploring and it blew my mind that you could trade picks because of the whole reordering thing
Mucky Tundra (4-Aug) : Zero, I think I preferred my offer: your 1st for my 15th rounder
