By structuring QB Aaron Rodgers' five-year, $110 million extension the way they did, the Packers have left themselves a lot of flexibility to extend other players or carry a large amount of cap space to 2014.

The official numbers for Rodgers' deal reached the NFLPA and, according to a source, the data shows that Rodgers received a $35 million signing bonus that is spread over the first five years of the contract. They lowered his base salary from $9.75 million to $4.5 million (plus $500,000 workout), so his cap number for 2013 is $12 million.

Since he was already counting $9.75 million against the cap, the Packers only lost $2.25 million of cap space.

As of Friday they were $15.48 million under the cap, so they are now $13.23 million under.

This is quite possibly the biggest and best news of the week, including that little diversion known as the draft.

I guess that means they could have picked up a quality FA and still gave Aaron Rodgers his due.

I am glad the Packers and Aaron could work out a deal that does not hamstring the team for the next few years.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Salary-cap-number-never-balloons-for-Aaron-Rodgers.html

The numbers are in on Aaron Rodgersā€™ new contract with the Green Bay Packers and they are shiny, to say the least.

You have to wonder if Rodgers could have pressed for more than $110 million in new money in five additional years, but itā€™s an impressive deal. Rodgers receives $54 million guaranteed, the second-highest in NFL history behind the $58 million Peyton Manning received. Heā€™ll earn $62.5 million in the first three years of the deal, the most ever.

Now, Rodgers is on the books for seven seasons ā€“ through 2019 ā€“ at a total of $130.75 million, an average of $18,678,571 per season. Probably the best part of the contract for the team is the salary cap numbers never get out of whack. That is good for Rodgers too because those issues can lead to restructures and players getting cut. Here are his cap numbers through the life of the deal:

2013 $12 million
2014 $17.9 million
2015 $18.6 million
2016 $19.6 million
2017 $20.65 million
2018 $20.9 million
2019 $21.1 million

Now look at Flacco's cap hits:

My faith in Ted is restored, [grin1]

I just had an idea--

The Packers should get the Leinenkugel brewery to develop and market a very top of the line beer to be sold exclusively in Lambeau field, at a high-dollar price. It should be called "Aaron Rodgers beer". Only Aaron Rodgers promotes it, via the jumbo screens...

Aaron on the screen: "Aaron Rodgers beer, expensive as hell, but worth every penny."

Next commercial: "Buy an Aaron Rodgers beer, it helps pay for my ridiculous contract."

I think it would be a hit. šŸ˜†

Aaron Rodgers...................................Joe Flacco

2013 $12 million..................................$ 6.8 million
2014 $17.9 million...............................$14.8 million
2015 $18.6 million...............................$14.55 million
2016 $19.6 million...............................$28.55 million
2017 $20.65 million.............................$31.15 million
2018 $20.9 million...............................$24.75 million
2019 $21.1 million

As always I like to put numbers down on paper, so I can digest the info. better.

Flacco's contract is 3yrs, after that he will either be let go or have to restructure, IMHO just a bunch of "window dressing" after the 3rd year.

Aaron Rodgers's contract should not hamper The Packers throughout the contract, all 7 years are very manageable, especially when you are talking about The #1 QB in the NFL.

I try to tell you how profound this is. I give you the data, I further give you a comparison/ contrast between Rodgers and Flacco. I even tell you how to sell beer. I get no applause.

Squadoosh. No acknowledgement.

Others come along and take my data and express some opinions and get major applause for doing so.

I feel so left out, lol Kind of de-motivating, in the contribution department... Ya know, I don't work here...

I want some sort of Obama compensation as an oppressed poster...
