Cutting him shouldn't be a problem, as he'd be more likely to accept a practice squad spot than somebody else.

True... BUT before you accept a practice squad spot with anyone you have to go through waivers, where any of the other 31 teams can then grab him, if they want him.
And if the Packers grab JRod in the draft, I'd be wondering if they know something I didn't.
If a QB needy team has an open spot, they might grab him just to get a closer look for a week or two if nothing else (like the Rams did claiming Lions troubled WR Titus Young (who thinks he's a better WR then WR Calvin Johnson).
