IMO.. part of the issue with the Packers is no one is kicking the underacheivers in the arse...

But a heck of an example of what it means to the careers of younger players.. Hawk you listening?

Veteran leadership
Thompson or any other general manager that thinks veteran leadership - anywhere on the depth chart - is overrated should talk to Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams. If it wasn't for Vinny Testaverde's seven-game stint with the team last season, Williams might still be an underachiever.

"I think he's probably impacted my season the most this year than anybody because of the conversation we had before he left," Williams said of the now-retired Testaverde.

"He really left me with some things that really touched me and stayed on my heart, as you can tell from this season."

Williams wouldn't say specifically what Testaverde told with him, but Testaverde informed the Charlotte Observer of the the main thrust of their conversation.

Testaverde, now 45, played his 21st and final season with Carolina.

"When I got there last year, it was the first game at Arizona. I handed the ball off to him, he'd run 10 or 12 yards and put his hand up to come out of the game," Testaverde said.

"After a few weeks, I said, 'You have all the ability to be a great running back, but you need to get in shape and you need not to want to come out of the game.' "

Testaverde, a workout freak himself, told Williams how his former New York Jets teammate Curtis Martin stayed healthy for so long and never wanted to come out of games.

"From what I can tell, he is in much better shape," said Testaverde. "I have to take my hat off to him because he looks phenomenal this year, as well as the rest of the team. I'm happy for him because he's such a great kid."

That's a good story, and there are many others like it in the NFL. But I don't know if there's a lack of leadership on the Packers, and I don't know how anyone else could know that unless they have inside information. Do you think A.J. Hawk is dogging it? Maybe he is, because he's had a disappointing season. Or maybe he's gutting it out and playing through pain, without admitting how much it's affecting him. He's always struck me as being very passionate about football, so I would guess the latter, but who really knows?

I do believe that there is a leadership factor missing. How much of a difference that would have made, I can't tell. But I don't doubt it exists. Last year the team as a whole played out of their minds, and got lucky a couple times.

I was hoping that somebody stepped up and took over that role, but haven't really seen it. With the experience that has been obtained by Rodgers, I hope he can take that role over next year.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

On Hawk.. this is the second straight year of questionable underachieving play.. if he has been hurt both seasons, then maybe we should be looking closer at him with the "Harrell" eye... albeit if he has been gutting it out he gets a big thumbs up over Justin.

The guy plays stiff and lacks any type of short area quickness.. plays on his heels and isn't attacking, for the monster he was in college he has become more of a field mouse.

On the lack of leadership.. I think it is pretty apparent on Sunday's.. watch the huddles, sidelines or when things start to slide.. especially when things start to slide.. the team looks defeated and no one, I repeat not a freaking one of them calms the team.. neither group.. Defense moreso than offense.. but even on offense Rodgers has a hard time getting this group to even form a decent huddle and look into the game.

They might be the best of friends and get along great as a team, but no one seems to take the lead on this team when things started to go south. IMO, that includes the coaching staff.

Can't see what happens inside the locker room, but on the field on Sunday's.. I see it. Or maybe I want to see it..

Either way.. this team lacks fire and someone has got to take the reins and pull this team back in when things go wrong.. Woodson could be that cat, but he doesn't seem vocal enough on Sundays.

i don't know if this was discussed but i truly believe leadership comes from the top - down. mccarthy's the head coach - he needs to fire up the assistants who in turn need to fire up the captains who then fire up the team. it's a mindset that HAS to come from the coaching staff, at least that's what always worked for me.

and please don't say you want the GM to fire up the team cuz yeah that works SO well for jones & the cowgirls, eh?

Zero2Cool (8h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (9h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
