I thought it might fit well to have a free agency thread. After all, our season is basically over and it's almost the offseason. So why not talk about what could help our team get better?

By the way, when is the first day of Free Agency?

we need peppers or haynesworth. we've already done enough building through the draft.

Peppers is from carolina anyways, I really don't see him leaving the panthers I am pretty sure he is happy there.

So lets just hope that Haynesworth would be willing to play in GB even if the money is right because hes gonna get plenty of offers. šŸ™‚

Yeah, I personally would rather see a good young lineman from the draft but that hasn't worked out too well the last couple years.

I don't see Green Bay landing either of these two. The cash they will command is going to be nuts. Rather invest that in the younger players and pick up maybe lesser known good players in free agency.

As much as I like Haynesworth, I'd be a bit hesitant to give him a long term, big money deal. Only once in his 7 year career has he played a full 16 game season and that was his rookie year. Each of the past 6 seasons, including this one, he has missed multiple games. To be fair, he hasn't had any major surgeries that I know of, but given that injury history, character questions, and his size, he just has so many risk factors.

Interestingly, I could have written that exact paragraph three years ago on Chuck Woodson, so I'm not saying I absolutely wouldn't sign him, just that there is a lot of risk to weigh.

Let's do a little exercise though.

Player (DT) A - 6ft, 6 in/320lbs/28 yrs old
2008 - 14 games/51 tackles/8.5 sacks
2007 - 13 games/40 tackles/6 sacks
2006 - 11 games/30 tackles/2 sacks
2005 - 14 games/52 tackles/3 sacks
2004 - 10 games/36 tackles/1 sack

Player (DT) B - 6ft, 3in/295lbs/25 yrs old
2008 - 12 games/28 tackles/5 sacks
2007 - 16 games/36 tackles/8 sacks
2006 - 12 games/28 tackles/5 sacks
2005 - 16 games/32 tackles/3 sacks
2004 - 16 games/43 tackles/3.5 sacks

Which player would you prefer? Obviously, those stats don't tell the whole story, but you can make a case for either guy.

Player A = Albert Haynesworth
Player B = Tommie Harris

Harris may get franchised and he's certainly no under-the-radar guy, but I don't know that I've heard his name mentioned on the board. I think he'd be every bit as good of an option as Haynesworth, if not better due to age and cost.

I thought Harris signed an extension? Maybe im wrong but i thought i remembered hearing that somewhere. If not I'd much rather have him the Haynesworth.

Just checked, Harris Signed a contract through 2012 with the Bears so he wont be a Free Agent. Maybe your were thinking of Tank Johnson?

beast (8-Jan) : Though if they're legitimately trying to re-sign MM, then it makes sense.
beast (8-Jan) : Jerry Jones still hasn't put Jimmy Johnson in the Ring of Honor, but he's in the NFL's Hall of Fame, Jones is petty
Mucky Tundra (8-Jan) : Unless the Cowboys are planning an extension, seems kinda petty
