I heard Maylock say yesterday that this is the deepest draft in 10 years. He did not think there is the elite top 10 you usually see and that the playoff teams will reap nearly the quality players as those that go early.

Based on the grades I see from Walter above they pretty much agree on a quality draft at most positions.

I see Ted Thompson licking his chops this april.

Every year, I think we get really involved in the free agency...only to be *let down* by Ted Thompson's lack of hitting the market.

My first round my favorites are...
Ziggy Ansah, DE, BYU - he's tall and has ridiculously long arms (think Jason Pierre-Paul). He's raw, but he would be an ideal 5-tech. In the Capers/Lebeau scheme, you want two beefy guys and a leaner, lengthy guy (like the Steelers have in Brett Keisel, who is only 285). Ansah played some snaps at NT at BYU despite being 280 ish. When I first started pimping Ansah, he was viewed as a third-round-ish guy. He has been steadily rising (despite being quite raw), and now, after a strong Senior Bowl performance, is viewed as a mid-first. We would likely need to move up to get him.

My real favorite - and might actually be there at #26 - is Jonathan Cooper, OG, from UNC. He's a beast, fast, nimble and a nasty attitude. I think his upside as a Center is unreal. I may be the only one who thinks this way, but in our system, I see a perennial Pro Bowler and possibly HoF. I know it's very early in the process, but I'm that high on him. Cooper was at #59 on NFL Draft Scout's rankings when I took an interest. He climbed up to the mid-teens. Then as the underclassmen declared, his projection came back to within what may be our range.

The third guy on my first round list is Eric Reid, FS, LSU. He has slipped some on the online mock boards. If their speculation is correct, we could fall back into the early second and still grab him. He would be a nice one-high type safety that we have missed since Nick Collins went down.

1st round.
I have been convinced by the greats of this board that this pick MUST BE a defensive lineman. Will I be mad if its not? No. With that said, a 3rd name will be added for my enjoyment of watching others squirm.
Three names make sense to me here.
Jesse Williams- DT from Alabama
Jonathan Jenkins- DT from Georgia
Eddie Lacy- RB from Alabama
With news of Worthy not being ready for the 2013 season and Pickett on the back 9 of his career, a defensive lineman just makes more and more sense. These are both bigger bodies than some of the DTs in this draft. Eddie Lacy will be a valuable choice and his "shelf life" is nothing to be concerned about. Of course, if Lacy is picked...this ruins the rest of my choices.

2nd round.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Packers going one of three routes here (all 3 names would most likely have to be a trade-up). The small emergence of EDS at center might allow the Packers to go elsewhere with this pick, hopefully safety. If they don't think EDS can carry the load at center, they push for one this round. The recent news of Finley's chances of not being a Packer next season opens up tight end. Do not rely on what the Packers have now. That spells trouble.
Three names...
Matt Elam- S from Florida
Barrett Jones- C/G/OT from Alabama
Tyler Eifert- TE from Notre Dame
These names may not even be on the board by the time the Packers are making a choice at #52. Makes this interesting. Do the Packers move up to grab one of these names? If not, more options later on...imo.

3rd round.
If a center is not chosen in the 2nd, I'd think center is an option here and might have to be a trade-up to get the name mentioned. Other two routes, runningback and wide receiver. Both units could use an extra body. Runningbacks can't stay healthy and receivers are losing Greg Jennings.
Travis Frederick- C from Wisconsin
Le'Veon Bell- RB from Michigan State
Justin Hunter- WR from Tennessee
Frederick is that big body center the Packers need to establish their run game. I really wish the small timer, Quinton Patton (LTech), was available here but I see too much info on him going early. Two names above help both units out

4th round.
Dependent on the other choices in previous rounds, 4th round can be spent pretty much anywhere. You could ask for a defensive linemen at this point, but you are most likely getting a work-in-progress type player here. Going back to defensive tackle and adding MLB.
Sylvester Williams- DT from North Carolina
Jon Bostick- MLB from Florida
I believe that the MLB position is a position of need. At this time the Packers have AJ Hawk as their best option available to play. Desmond Bishop and D.J. Smith coming off major injuries are concerning. If Jon Bostick is available here, it would be a great choice and help with the MLB woes.

5th round.
If a safety is not selected yet. I'd like to see the Packers pursue one here and have a competition with the young guns already there. Also, if a specific name is available here, I wouldn't mind the Packers taking a chance, even though they might be set at said position.
Zeke Motta- S from Notre Dame
Tyrann Mathieu- CB from *LSU
More options for the backfield. Motta can bring some competition to the Jennings/McMillian mix. Mathieu is a big time reach but the kid can play football. With our corners pretty much set, Williams play has declined since his injury and it was said that 2013 will be an open competition. Why not? Also brings on a special teams role (bye bye Jarrett Bush and take Cobb off returns). Also, Mathieu's play reminds me of a young Charles Woodson. Just sayin'

6th and 7th should be filled with work-in-progress linemen. It can be offense or defense.

Here's how you might get a Jonathan Jenkins and any of the three 2nd round picks you have named.

Trade #26 for a low 2nd ( say 35,36,37) and a low 3rd. Trade the original late 2nd (55) and the early 3rd (for giving up #26) for another early 2nd and presto, you get Elam, Jones, or Eifert if one is still on the board.

The fall back position in the event the second trade didn't happen would not be bad. Your sitting on #55,with early and later (88) third rounders with Jenkins or Jones in your pocket.

In a deep draft I take it.

Cooper came in with 30 POUNDS of additional good weight, excelled in all tests and on-field drills.

Who do you pick between the two if they are on the board and your team is up and in need? Cooper is also noted as being smart so he can take command of an offensive line at the center position.

Man it's been a while since I've posted... getting really excited for the draft. I've been scouting some guys on Youtube, so I think I'll give Ted Thompson my advice sometime soon(I am a stockholder and all).

Had a question for some of you other goofballs- What do you guys think of Margus Hunt(SMU, DL)?
"Margus Hunt is an Estonian multi-sport athlete who competes in the discus throw and shot put in addition to playing college football. He is the former world junior record holder in discus throw."

I thought that was kind of cool. He is listed as 275lbs and has had comparisons to Watt because the dude is tall (6'8") and JPP because of his freakish athleticism.

Highlights

Biggest turnoff that I have found from most experts- He's 25.

They'll both be gone by 15.

Reid was good in the speed drills, but in the explosion stuff... a safety with a KEI pushing 70?

He may not be there either

Zero2Cool (17m) : NFL thought it would get more attention week preceding Super Bowl.

Zero2Cool (22m) : From 2010 to 2022, it was played on the Sunday before the Super Bowl

beast (10h) : I thought the pro game was before the Super Bowl?
packerfanoutwest (10h) : ok now for the Pro Bowl Game in Hawaii
TheKanataThrilla (11h) : If I was Philly I would try to end it instead of punting it
Mucky Tundra (11h) : VICTORY! We have (moral) victory!
TheKanataThrilla (11h) : Hey they mentioned that we 3-peted
Mucky Tundra (12h) : seems to me the 49ers should have traded Aiyuk when they had the chance
Mucky Tundra (12h) : if the Eagles get it down to the 1, do they Tush Push or give it to Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : 49ers have a money problem if they want to sign their QB
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Wait for real? Didn't he just get an extension two years ago?
Zero2Cool (12h) : 49ers gonna trade Deebo. Interesting
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Replays always never seem to show the holdings
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Great throw by Hurts
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Where Carter falls prey to bad off the field influences (to be clear, not saying he'd clip someone though)
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Had Carter not gone to Philly were they already had a lot of old college friends, he ends up in a similar spot to Aaron Hernandez
Mucky Tundra (12h) : I think some of his coaches told scouts to stay away
Mucky Tundra (12h) : the street racing incident+conditioning and motivation problems
beast (12h) : Then Carter was street racing, where the other car crashed and people died... and other teams were scared to pick Carter for some reason
beast (12h) : I think the Saints traded up, giving their next year 1st to the Eagles, and then they sucked and Eagles got the 10th overall pick
packerfanoutwest (12h) : wtf Barkley?
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (12h) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them
TheKanataThrilla (12h) : I think so. I would need to look it up. Think it may have been Carolina's pick.
Mucky Tundra (12h) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now
Mucky Tundra (12h) : oh fuck me i messed that up
Zero2Cool (12h) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (12h) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (12h) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (13h) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (13h) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (13h) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (13h) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (13h) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (13h) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
Mucky Tundra (13h) : this game is over
Mucky Tundra (13h) : This might be the kill shot here
Mucky Tundra (13h) : oh that's such a bad penalty for KC after getting the 3rd down stop
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Philly DL has come to play
TheKanataThrilla (13h) : Ceoper DeJean with the INT scored...bad memories of draft night
Mucky Tundra (14h) : ok scratch that
Mucky Tundra (14h) : Game feels like last years Super Bowl: 49ers started off in control, moved the ball well but didn't have much of a lead to show for it
