My point is that trying to reach for things like 'intangibles' is either silly or being done by people who have an agenda that's different than simply wanting to know what went wrong this year. I'm an Occam's Razor kind of guy - the simplest answer to a large part of the problem this year was that we lost key players in crucial positions and didn't have either the quality depth or the flexibility in schemes to overcome those injuries.

It's that simple. I don't need to look for things like jealousy, or people coasting because they got paid, or intangibles. All I need to see is what I just said. Injuries and lack of depth or scheme flexibility to overcome them.

Now, who people want to BLAME, that's a different story and something best left to the folks who like to talk about things like intangibles.

I am going to give up on even trying to explain this anymore.

Just because you think experience and leadership at the QB position was PART of the problem this year does not mean that you don't think the defense has had problems or the o-line has had problems or the coaching has been questionable, etc.

Everyone acts like we're the Detroit Lions and get blown out every game. We've lost so many close games. We've had so many games where the ball has been in our hand and the ability to take the lead. We took the Titans to OT in Ten, etc.

Just because you think that Favre's leadership was important to being 13-3 and think that Rodgers looks shaky and not confident in close games (case and point = Jax) DOES NOT MEAN you don't think there are other problems with the team.

The coaching is crap. Mike McCarthy and co. has a complete lack of ability to make meaningful adjustments. The run defense is one of the worst in the league. The zone blocking scheme is stupid IMO. But that doesn't mean that the QB hasn't been an issue. I don't blame him, its his first year as a starter! But the QB positoin has been part of the problem.

Patriots Injuries - Another example - 9-5 - and lost MVP Tom Brady and starting RB. IMO injury excuse makes no sense. Its on the GM to prepare for it and on the coaching staff to be creative and work around them. As a fan, I don't give them a "pass" for this season because of injuries. Its on Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy to prepare and adjust. At the end of the day, we're not the Lions or Chiefs. We lost so many close games, we were in a position to win many and either the defense blew it or our offense couldn't move the ball.

You did read the part of my post where I said almost the same thing, right?

I'm not giving anyone a pass, AND I've already defended your theory about Favre's influence, at least to a point, in several instances. The lack of quality depth is on Thompson, as I've said. The lack of creativity and flexibility to account for the dropoff in ability is due to misses in coaching. And we got decimated by injuries. And Rodgers or Favre, we wouldn't be 13-3 this year - given the issues we've collectively listed, we'd probably still miss out on the playoffs.

I think we agree, dude. This is what I'm trying to say.

Injuries can be huge (as they were to us) when you don't have a very good backup to take over.
If you do have that luxery, it of course lessons the blow to the team.
Obviously we don't have the great backups we need when we lose crucial players.

I don't see how Ted Thompson Didn't have reliable back ups to replace our losses at key positions, I mean hell I do it in madden all the time, why couldnt Ted?!?!?!?!?!!?

How do teams get past injuries?
First the backup needs to play well. And the other players around need to step up and help cover for that loss.

When I look at the Packers D injuries this year, it is not missing a player, it is that they were missing players in each area. Jenkins on the Dline, Hawk nicked up and then losing Barnett in the LBer core, Missing Harris for a while, and Missing Bigby and Rouse.

When the injury bug get to bad, the team ends up with backups, that are not only expected to come in and play, they are now expected to also help cover for other injuries.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
