In my never ending pursuit of being a dabbler, I have become a bit of a dilettante collector of poker chips.

Which is the oddest sort of collecting for me to do, given that I don't gamble and that I haven't played a game of poker for over 25 years. Nor do I have any plans to come out of retirement. And even if I did, I'd probably never find a game since everyone wants to play this Texas Hold'Em stuff, rather than the classic 5- and 7-card stud. And IMO watching it as a "sport" is akin to watching paint dry. Bleh!.

But for some reason (tactile pleasure?) I'm fascinated by these little 39mm things. Probably because every one has a story inside it waiting to escape, a story full of smoke-filled rooms, gratuitous violence waiting to happen, and women wearing low-cut gowns.

But I digress before I've even stated the point of this post.

I don't know if anyone here is a player, but if you are and are ever looking to get a good set of chips to use, a really good set of chips, check out the Samurai Warriors that Blue Chip Chips make and sell through holdempokerchips.com -- I just got a small set of them, and I think they're better than any of the Paulson's people rave about. If I were a player, these are the ones I'd want on my fancy felt and leather table.

Check them out.

Oh geez. Such a shame you live in Iowa.

I'm SO sick of Texas Hold 'Em. The game I usually deal I call "royalty." It's 7 card stud. If a King is showing, you can buy an extra card face down for $1. If a Queen is showing, you can buy an extra card face down for $2. If a Jack is showing, you can buy an extra card face down for $3.

The pot gets big fast. Of course, you can play nickels instead of dollars if you want to go lower stakes.

Texas Hold 'Em is one of those overrated celebrity b.s. games. I have no idea how it got as big as it got but I won't play it. Most boring variant of poker I've ever experienced.

When we play, we deal one hand at a time then pass the deck. Dealer chooses the game. So we get a lot of variation.

Oh, and I'll probably end up buying those Egyptian ones. Those are phat.

Wade, your thread prompted me to check on the status of "Full tilt Poker". You might recall that the Justice Department seized that site, along with all the others catering to US players, leaving my wife "high and dry" with regard to her $$$ balance.

I just checked, and FTP is apparently rather close to a settlement of some sort with the Justice Dept. that would enable her to extricate her money, sometime after the 6th of November.

It's been 16 months, and she hasn't mentioned it in over a year, nor had I checked, so when I can tell her that she can now pull her money out, she is going to be most pleasantly surprised.

My favorite chips are whichever ones the casino I'm in will cash. I don't care if they are embossed cow chips.

Anyway, thanks for the thread, think "found money", and who don't like that?
