A boycott would have a huge effect because it would hit the owners where it hurts them the most - in the pocketbook. But it would be hard to get decent participation because most people look at it that they want to get something for the money they've already spent. A letter writing/phone call campaign to sponsors of the games would be something people could do that would cost very little, letting them know you are boycotting their product until the league gets this situation corrected. Companies figure that for every letter or call they get it represents 100 or 1000, some very high ratio, people. It's all about money.
