Back on topic. One can create all sorts of interesting stats extrapolating out of two games. The most frightening one has the pack finishing 8-8.

I think the main point is that CMIII is on a tear and it is great. It would be awesome to see him have a DPOY season.

And as this post is typed, things are already stirring at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, home of the Seahawks, Tom Cable is freaking out and watching as much video as he can on Clay Matthews. Pat Ruel is leaning over Cable's shoulder and has a nervous left eyebrow twitch while watching the same film of Matthews.

Fact is, teams will adjust. However, it is a hell of a start, and I love logging on to NFL Stats and seeing Clay with a (3) THREE Sack cushion on the 2012 NFL Sack Lead.

My prediction, barring injury, is 27.5 sacks. I just think he will make it happen.

Teams will adjust, just like they did in 2010. Will someone else step up?

Musccy makes a good point. I think about the same topic-title was used, as well, in 2010. Everyone was sure he was going to destroy the single-season record... Only to have him wind up with 13.5 on the season, 7.5 over the last 14 games, 2 over the last six...

There's a lot of things that have to happen if you want to keep up a pace like this. I personally don't think he'll get it. Perry's playing fine, but in his third game as a pro, he's not drawing that much attention just yet. All eyes, and double-teams, are still on Matthews.

Then you still have the chance of getting an injury. He doesn't miss a whole lot of games, but he does get dinged up quite a bit.

Also, like Dakta said, you won't be facing Webb every week. Our schedule does look somewhat favorable with quite a few LT/QB combinations that Clay could beat, but still.

And lastly, we won't be facing Favre, so no one will just lay down if he needs just one more sack for the record.

Too soon for such projections.
There is alot of water to go under the bridge before the season ends.
I just hope this defense has taken a step up with their fine effort in game 2 against the bears.
There is still alot of room for improvement at this point.

As someone said, teams just won't let that continue unless a couple of other players step up big time. Even then teams most likely won't let it continue choosing the lesser of two or more evils. It's possible, but the odds are against it. That said, it would be great if he could pull it off.

At the same time as I was saying too early, I don't entirely buy the idea that teams will adjust. Its not like Matthews is some scrub that is playing outstanding out of nowhere. Teams already account for him. Granted they will account for him with more support now. Others need to step up to account. A big difference between 2012 and 2010 is that Perry may help Matthews keep the sacks coming.

Him even getting close is going to require more than his effort alone.. if the balance of the front can win some one on one, he very well might challenge for the sacks lead or more.

But it requires more than him alone.. so far, the pressure is much better all around. Can it continue?

That is the question. I look forward to watching it play out.

beast (30-Dec) : Win or Loss, the NFCS is going down to week 18
Mucky Tundra (30-Dec) : if the Falcons win, how does that affect the overall NFC playoff picture? Does it mean that the NFC South comes down to week 18?
