This defense needs an overhaul starting with Philosophy. I absolutely hate what we do on defense. I would love to have a Philly, Pitt, or Tennessee style of defense here. I don't care if it is a 3-4 or a 4-3, but atack, attack, attack, Vanilla D sucks!
Of course to be successful with any system you need a solid front 4.

Normally our cover schemes if you have the corners to pull it off, is one hell of a defense to beat. That is assuming you have at least a little pressure from your front and the QB doesn't have a 5 beat or better to throw the ball.
Man to man is beatable with time, you have to wait for the receiver to work open. But we have the corners to play the scheme, so that really isn't the problem, and honestly the two over safeties lead to turnovers.. we lead the league there.
So, it comes back to getting pressure and your fronts ability to beat his man if you get him into one on one matchups.. not every time but consistent enough to make the QB hurry his reads.. we aren't getting that done.
People say we aren't creative enough on the blitz's.. I will agree with don't stunt much, name that last time Kampman twisted completely in? But a couple of times today, we got overloads but the backers (Hawk and Poppinga ) couldn't get home.. Bishop got two pressures today.. a Packer record.
My point is, the backers are not being taught how to get off a block or they are not listening to the coaching.. as far as the lineman.. I have yet to see one player use and effective swim move to beat a blocker.. nor have I seen one lineman get under an olines pads and bull rush him at all.. they all loop or in the middle the just kind of stand them up and sit there.
Is it coaching or is it lack of talent?
I can't be sure since I am not in the staff meeting.. but I sure in the hell am not impressed.
