:spiderman: Let's agree that GB has about as much chance at a play-off berth as does a snowball of surviving hell. So, now it's on to 2009 and let's try to be honest. Tauscher and Clifton both, may well be gone. So far, no adequte replacements there. Harris and Woodson may also be in that category, perhaps one replacement there. Defensive line, only two players worth another year, Kampman and Pickett. LBs above average but, no real standouts.
Now I'll float a proposal: perhaps the time is ripe for shit canning the ZBS and try out a more conventional system in the remaining games which at least would give GB a head start on 2009 and provide the coaching staffs some idea of what they have. At least GB's draft status will improve.
Yeah! I'm sorely disappointed and all the excuses are just a lot of hot air.

" linebackers above average" you seriously can't be talking about Packers linebackers.
They have been terrible.

i've been advocating scrapping the zbs for while. we don't have the personnel.

unfortunately, we have wasted draft picks on 6-8 (not sure) offensive linemen for the ZBS.

the great thing for the Pack is that this upcoming draft has a lot of good linemen (offensive and defensive).

i don't think we'll have success w/ a power running system with our current linemen. we need new bodies.

I HATE the ZBS. I remember thinking back in the 90s when we were going up against Denver that they were skirting on the edge of the rules and that it would take just a slight miscalculation on the blockers part to put them on the wrong side of the rules or to hurt someone. I was very disappointed when the Packers adopted it.

Agree that the OL we've got is not suited for the power game, so don't know what the benefit/point would be to scrapping the running game and trying to install an entirely new one.

We have replacements for Clifton and Tauscher - Colledge and Giacomini. I think Tauscher will be back, though. As much as I like Cliffy, he's at most a backup in 2009, I think. Wells, too. Seems to me our best line was Colledge, Barbre, Spitz, Sitton & Tauscher.

I think Harris and Woodson will both be back - certainly no reason not to want either of them. Tramon Williams has come on strong this year, but a team needs three good CBs.

Defensive line? I like Kampmann, Pickett and Jolly. We haven't seen enough of Harrell to give up on him yet. But we do need someone who can rush the passer and collapse the pocket. KGB should have been re-signed at a lower salary, at the very least.

Linebackers are individually very talented. Their less-than-stellar performances I blame on scheme and coaching.

I am completely, fully, totally on board with scrapping the zone blocking scheme. I have hated it since day one because I don't like the way we're trying to implement it, i.e. that we're trying to mix it in and use it only on certain plays. Ridiculous and futile. And every man on our defensive line would be fine without it - we've continued (for some reason) to draft maulers all along the line.
