Excellent article. My favorite quote:

There's a larger, more significant issue that speaks to Rodgers' greatness. He can beat the defense even when the defense wins...

Arodge has the physical tools.

Add to that, MM's QB guru'ing and the motivation provided by the guy who used to play the position.

The fact that the league is promoting passing offense doesn't hurt either.

I had a few problems with his count down. I though Newton and Eli were over rated.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.

I had a dream last night that I was watching the Packers play the Seahawks at G Sports Bar in Vancouver. In my dream I was with my buddies who are Seahawk fans.

Aaron broke his wrist on a Seahawk helmet and they were cheering and laughing.

I was thinking about that after I got back from my work day... Then I checked the schedule.

Ohh My. Week Three. Wish I did not have that dream.

Ready for this? After seeing what Brees just signed for I say we throw the same exact numbers at Rodgers but maybe something like 6 year 120 Million type of contract. I say get it done now before we wait and it will cost alot more.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Theres a huge difference pack and they kept redoing his contract because he would take pay cuts to sign free agents. i don't agree with it but i do agree with roddy on this way to early for this 8 games into a career and you throw the bank at him this could be the end of Ted Thompson (thank god maybe we can stop planning for the future) oh wait thats what he just did.

how can you say a solid qb with a 4-3 record? and thanks for the laugh you brought up free agency and green bay in the same sentence lol. Ted Thompson and free agents don't go together.

Brees' average salary of $20 million surpassed the NFL-record $19.2 million per year that the Denver Broncos gave quarterback Peyton Manning earlier this year. He also set new financial marks with $40 million in the first year of the deal, including a $37 million signing bonus, and $60 million in guaranteed money, provided the Saints don't release him after the first or second season.

Brees' deal won't cause any immediate salary-cap problems for the Saints. In fact, Brees' cap number for 2012 will actually drop from $16.37 million (the amount of his franchise-tag offer) to $10.4 million, since his signing bonus will be pro-rated over the life of the deal for accounting purposes.

Brees is scheduled to earn a total of $40 million this year, followed by $10 million in 2013, $11 million in 2014, $19 million in 2015 and $20 million in 2016. His salary cap numbers will be $10.4 million, $17.4 million, $18.4 million, $26.4 million and $27.4 million, respectively.

The $40 million this year is fully guaranteed. Then after the 2012 season, the Saints will have a three-day window to release Brees, or else another $15 million will be fully guaranteed. They'll have another three-day window after the 2013 season before another $5 million will be fully guaranteed.

I was wondering how the signing bonus effected the salary cap, the FACT THAT IT CAN BE PRO-RATED bodes well for The Packers.

Aaron is gonna want, and deserves, to be highest paid qb, from what I read Brees' contract has a total of 60 mil guaranteed money.

6yr deal..total 126mil, 42mil signing bonus, since Aaron is still under contract, I'm wondering if they could pro-rate the signing bounus over 7 yrs?? That would add 6 mill to what Aaron cap " already is for 2011.

Packers would have to guarantee prob another 20 mil.

I'm not savvy enough to figure out how it would be done, but agree with dhazer get it done sooner than later.

I know The Packers situation is not as dire as the Saints was,so maybe Ted will wait till 2012 to get a contract done with Aaron.

Gonna be some tought decisons to be made next couple of years, Packers will not be able to keep all their stars.

Publicly and I mention that for a reason, publicly Aaron Rodgers has stated a few times that he has no desire to be the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. What he says behind closed doors, could be vastly different, lol.

Looking at a list break down of Drew Brees contract... just insane how out of control contracts have gotten.

7/13/2012: Signed a five-year, $100 million contract.
The deal contains $40 million guaranteed -- a $37 million signing bonus and Brees' first-year base salary.
2012: $3 million,
2013: $10 million,
2014: $11 million,
2015: $19 million,
2016: $20 million,
2017: Free Agent
