Interesting link, dfosterf. For all the fans bitching that Thompson never does anything in free agency, here are the figures:
Of the 61 players currently on the Packers' roster (not including practice squad), 33 players (54%) were drafted, 23 (38%) were picked up as free agents, 2 (3%) were obtained in trades, and 3 (5%) were claimed off waivers.
The drafted players include many fan favorites: Donald Driver (currently the longest-tenured player on the team), Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher, Aaron Kampmann, Aaron Rodgers, Will Blackmon, Mason Crosby, and Jordy Nelson.
However, plenty of Packers standouts came to Green Bay as free agents, including Colin Cole, Cullen Jenkins, Atari Bigby, Donald Lee, Tramon Williams, Charles Woodson, and Ryan Pickett.
The two players obtained through trades were, of course, Al Harris and Ryan Grant.
Jarrett Bush, Charlie Peprah, and John Kuhn were the players claimed off waivers.
So yes, it's been a mixed bag overall, but while it's obvious Ted Thompson loves to build through the draft, it is also apparent that he is not at all averse to picking up quality players through other means.
Note: Figures may not equal 100% due to rounding.
