Stanford is looking for a new Athletic Directory and apparently Mark Murphy wanted the position when available in 2006. Stanford has requested permission to interview Murphy for the position.

What impact (if any) do you foresee if Mark Murphy leaves the Packers?

I think it's semi-hilarious that a college AD position is more attractive than a pro President job.

Sort of like running for Senator after being President of the United States.

I would not want to have Mark leave. Mark is very capable, yet basically stays in the background and lets everybody else do they're job, much like Harlan did. He seems to be quite well respected throughout the league. The chemistry throughout our management and coaches is excellant, unless some one knows something they're not letting out. He also has aggressiveness and a good business sense to keep the Packers growing financially which will help us stay competetive. On top of it all he was a very good player, so he has an insight that not many top execs have.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Ok, I'll answer the OP. [grin1]

My feeling on Murphy departing is a gigantic yawn. Finding another person whose primary roles are PR and interacting with Goodell's office and other lawyers for a seven figure salary -- this is not going to be particularly hard to do.

Murphy IMO is a corporate executive. A good one, to be sure, but good corporate executives with legal savvy are a lot more plentiful that the dipshit execs who make the news would suggest.

Not calling for his replacement -- but if he moves on, it's not going to be a big thing.

Unless you lack confidence in the Executive Committee's ability to avoid the dipshit candidates.

I'm with Wade. The guys who do the real work are the guys like 🇹🇹 (and his staff) and 🇲🇲. Murphy leaving is not going to hurt us. 🇹🇹 or 🇲🇲 leaving will hurt us.

I am hurt that Kevin moved my post. Tyranny at the highest levels.

After all I did post my comment to this thread.

I don't see him moving on for an AD position at any university.

And country to some poster's opinions it take a lot of moxy to remain in the background and let others do their jobs. Not everyone can do that. I also wonder if The Committee would find another so able as Mark but then my opinion of committees is pretty low.

I'd be more than willing to do Mark Murphy's job. If anyone high up in the Packers' org reads this, the Zombieslayer is quite good at sitting back and letting others do their jobs.

The real discussion might be, "Does this guy have the best job on EARTH, or what?"

Fellow Packers fans, let's all take a deep breath. A source within the Packers organization has refuted any impending move by Murphy. Director of Public Relations Aaron Popkey emailed with Jason Wilde today, who reported Popkey's response earlier today:

Mark’s at an NFL meeting and not available today. With regard to the speculation, it’s simply just that. There’s no basis to it.
