Anyone can have principles when the consequences of following them are small. The real indicator of principles is what you do when the consequences of following them are big.

I don't claim to always make the right decision in such cases. Only saints do that.

But I just don't think "I would have been done in the NFL" is enough of a justification for a lessening of the punishment.

Wasn't this statement from an earlier statement released before the punishment? I don't think this is something he's JUST now saying in hopes of getting a reduced punishment. It's part of his original release which the press was finally able to get their hands on. PFT wrote an article today describing the situation and how Hargrove isn't as bad as it seems (although not clear of guilt, obviously). I honestly haven't read much about it because I really don't care, but I don't think Hargrove is trying to weasel out of anything, necessarily.
