Anyone can have principles when the consequences of following them are small. The real indicator of principles is what you do when the consequences of following them are big.

I don't claim to always make the right decision in such cases. Only saints do that.

But I just don't think "I would have been done in the NFL" is enough of a justification for a lessening of the punishment.

Wasn't this statement from an earlier statement released before the punishment? I don't think this is something he's JUST now saying in hopes of getting a reduced punishment. It's part of his original release which the press was finally able to get their hands on. PFT wrote an article today describing the situation and how Hargrove isn't as bad as it seems (although not clear of guilt, obviously). I honestly haven't read much about it because I really don't care, but I don't think Hargrove is trying to weasel out of anything, necessarily.

Hargrove may well have good reasons for an appeal. I'm just saying that "they made me do it" isn't one of them.

I don't want to take the debate any further, but I'm a firm believer that there is no such thing as a selfless action, not that there's anything wrong with that.

As for Hargrove, I don't blame him trying to do whatever it takes to get back on the field. He's already admitted he had SOMETHING to do with it, but there's no harm in attempting to make the commissioner re-think his case and perhaps reduce the punishment a game or so. I hope he does because I think Hargrove can be a difference maker for a few snaps a game off the bench. Solid depth, especially if he's motivated and pissed off.
