Yeah, and Ted has so many cards in his hand that they are falling all over the table...

Also noted at KFFL the Bears have been looking extensively at McClellin. Hmm.

I could see where players x and y are rated similar. A team already likes player x better and has decided to draft/rate him higher. So they bring in player y for an extensive workout to solidify their choice and at the same time making everbody think they're going after player y. But on D day they're hoping for player x.

Does it happen? I'm like the dog in the Far Side cartoon, where he drew arrows on the floor to the dryer in the laundry room, with "Cat Fud" written on the dryer door, hiding behind the wall going, "Ohhh, Please...Pleeeeease!"

Did an interesting little exercise just now, for kicks: looked up the other pass rushers that were chosen after our Sherrod pick in 2011, just to see what we missed out on. Man, going back to the end of R3, there was ONE player that really did well, Jabaal Sheard, chosen 5 picks after Sherrod by CLE in R2 (#37). He had 8.5 sacks last year. Most of the rest were lucky to get 1 or 2 sacks, or to get onto the field.

Out of 13 DL chosen that year in R2 and R3, only 1 had more than 2.5 sacks (Sheard's 8.5).

Aldon Smith, the first DL chosen #7 overall by SF in R1 had more than both the top two DL R2-3 put together (11) with 14.5. In looking further down the line in R1 from 2011, out of the 10 DL selected before Sherrod, there were a handful of guys that had 5 sacks after Smith, something like 3 or 4 players.

I guess that is part of my reasoning for wanting to land two of these big dudes in R1 this year, by trading up. The further down you go, those pickings can get really slim. And we need that big impact DL help this year. I'm hoping for the best.

Oh, please,
Oh please....

This week I looked back on some ofthe past drafts also. I didn't put any numbers together but it looked to me when you get some around the mid first round or later you have to be pretty lucky to get an immediate impact player. And drafting above that is certainly no sure thing. Most players need a year or two to develop, like Mario Williams. So not only do we need to draft well, we need a little luck. That's why I'd like to see a DL and OLB, to improve our chances.

Yeah, that little exercise shows we should be pretty happy if we can add some DL help that would give us +5 sacks next year. Anything more is gravy. Like you said, hopefully we can add a couple of those pass rushers with solid picks at DE and OLB.

If you were to trade up, who do you like? Me, I'd go for Mercillus, Brockers, Ingram or Coples, maybe Upshaw.

Something tells me Ted is going to be bold, and give us 3 in the top 60. I would not be surprised if the last of those 3 picks is used on Iloka.

Well they certainly were in position, and did trade up 3 times in the draft. All for current-year picks as expected though, Jones and Finley still on the roster and will likely remain there for the season.

So play2win, how do you feel about the draft? From this thread it would seem like they went out and got exactly what you wanted, 2 DL and 1 impact OLB. You were just about right in that Ted got 3 picks in the top 60; 28, 51 and 62.

TheKanataThrilla (1m) : Getting Carter and Nolan Smith in the first round in 2023 was pretty darn good
Mucky Tundra (9m) : for some reason i'm thinking of a draft where the Eagles where in the mid 20s and a top player fell all the way to them
TheKanataThrilla (10m) : I think so. I would need to look it up. Think it may have been Carolina's pick.
Mucky Tundra (10m) : i'm not sure who i'm thinking of now
Mucky Tundra (11m) : oh fuck me i messed that up
Zero2Cool (11m) : Jordan Davis was 13th overall
Zero2Cool (11m) : Carter was 9th overall
Zero2Cool (11m) : Eagles had 15th and 10th selections, moved to 13 and 9 to get Davis and Carter back to back
Zero2Cool (13m) : Eagles traded up for Carter, didn't they?
Mucky Tundra (23m) : Obviously he was a huge risk but getting a top 5 talent on the dline in the mid 20s is fortuitous
Mucky Tundra (23m) : Jalen Carter falling into their lap certainly helps
TheKanataThrilla (26m) : And we could only wish to have this type of D
TheKanataThrilla (26m) : It's not like Philly has had low draft picks, but has managed to get themselves a top notch pass rush. We spend so much draft capital of D
packerfanoutwest (27m) : another crap halftime show
TheKanataThrilla (28m) : I think it is over, but then I think of Atlanta and want Philly to go in with the same intensity in the second half
Mucky Tundra (36m) : And with a Pass Rush that might as well be on a milk cartoon and no Jaire
Martha Careful (37m) : I cant help but feel good about how well the Packers D played in Philly during the playoffs
Mucky Tundra (47m) : this game is over
Mucky Tundra (51m) : This might be the kill shot here
Mucky Tundra (1h) : oh that's such a bad penalty for KC after getting the 3rd down stop
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Philly DL has come to play
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Ceoper DeJean with the INT scored...bad memories of draft night
Mucky Tundra (1h) : ok scratch that
Mucky Tundra (1h) : Game feels like last years Super Bowl: 49ers started off in control, moved the ball well but didn't have much of a lead to show for it
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : KC jumped and they call it on Eagles. WTF refs
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : If he was offside why did you let him pop the QB?
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : I like that Eagles are controlling time of possession so far.
Mucky Tundra (1h) : If the Eagles are going to win, this is how they do it: jump all over the Chiefs and don't let it turn into a close one
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Bad throw created that penalty.
TheKanataThrilla (1h) : Amazed Philly got that hit to the helmet call.
packerfanoutwest (2h) : refs just called an OPI,,,bullshit
dhazer (2h) : final score Chefs 24 Eagles 21 Refs 3
Mucky Tundra (4h) : feels like it hurts everyone but starters
Mucky Tundra (4h) : *cut down on snaps that
Mucky Tundra (4h) : beast, no not at all. Just seems counterproductive to cut down on snaps to help back ups get playing time and get potential money after cuts
Zero2Cool (6h) : So, Jets tell Rodgers they're moving on? QB2 for Packers haha
Zero2Cool (6h) : Hey, I'm not saying it's the great idea. I'm saying, it's what I think will happen.
beast (6h) : You think they give a crap enough about bubble guys to make rules for them?
Mucky Tundra (7h) : So games that will be even *more* sloppy the first two or three weeks of the season?
Zero2Cool (10h) : I think you can figure most starters won't be playing either of the two games at all.
Mucky Tundra (23h) : is 2 preseason games enough for bubble guys to make a mark?
packerfanoutwest (8-Feb) : true.forgot about that
Zero2Cool (8-Feb) : Unless they reduce preseason from three to two games.
packerfanoutwest (8-Feb) : If Goodell allows an 18 game season, there will be a SB on Valentines Day
Zero2Cool (8-Feb) : Perfect football player. - Ron Wolf on Sharpe
Zero2Cool (8-Feb) : Sharpe didn't celebrate TD's ... crazy I didn't realize it back then
Martha Careful (7-Feb) : Congratulations Sterling Sharpe
Mucky Tundra (7-Feb) : beast, you didn't miss much with that one. Raiders didn't update their play calls, audibles etc so the Bucs D steamrolled
buckeyepackfan (6-Feb) : That was quick, one thing Jordan said was he doesn't agree with Josh Jacobs, that the Packers need to go get a proven #1 wr
