I think pass defense stats can be sort of misleading. When you're ranked as low as the packers are in rush defense, you're gonna be pretty high in pass, because everyone knows they can run on you. I would be much nicer if they were in the top 10 in both run AND pass, thats when you know you have a dominating defense.

But when you look at stats this early there is no question the numbers are affected by the luck of the draw. Do you really think the Titans and Bills would be where they are if they weren't as fortunate to have the schedule they have had to date? Do you not think the teams they have drawn have not help pad some stats?
We're seven games into the season and that's not enough to show where teams will finish when everything evens out and good pass "D"s have seen good pass "O"s and run "D"s face the good run teams.

We have faced four teams in the top eleven in rushing offense already all averaging over 125 ypg so for us to be in the "top" 10 at this point is asking a lot when some that are up there have yet to face the true quality running offenses.

Especially with the walking wounded we were putting out there.

I expect to spoil the Titans pretty little record. Last year we had a bit of a streak going as well. We got some breaks go our way to help us with that. Titans have been very effective defensively but coaches are there not only to train but to game plan. The way we handled the Colts tells me our coaching staff is up to the task of manipulating certain teams based upon their weaknesses and coming off a bye will only help us. Time to spoil the party down in Tennessee.

That said the pass defense has played extremely well, especially with 2 starters out in the D backfield. If they can just start playing the run a little better they will be virtually unstopable. The titan's will be a very important test.

I disagree. When you're ranked low in rush defense you should expect your pass defense to be ranked low also, because any team would run the ball down your throat and NOT pass. Why should they? Until you stop the run, I'll continue to run, and I won't pass until you make me do it.

What these stats tell me is that opposing teams are throwing the ball every so often to present a balanced attack, and our DB's are making them pay for that. Hence the picks and the wins.

I could go along with this other than the fact we lead the league in INT's and are very good in opposing teams passing percentage. Teams do try to pass against us we just happen to be very good defending it. You don't lead the NFL in interceptions if the other team is only trying to run it down your throat.

The fact of the matter is we rank 9th in the number of pass attempts by the opposing team so the numbers don't support your theory.

IF ANYTHING I would say our oppositions ability to run the ball and get favorable down and distance should IMPROVE their passing percentage and LOWER the INT's which tells what kind of a job these guys are doing.

Thats an interesting stat about pass attempts, and all of your points are valid as well. Maybe they are as good as they're ranking suggests? I'm just happy to see everyone in the DB getting healthy, it would be nice to see a formation that was 3 CBs, 3 S. I have no idea how that would work, but its a fun thought 🙂

the packers may have the best secondary in football. when bigby comes back with harris, we will show the true talent of our secondary. remember williams didnt have his picks at nickel. he had them starting in place of harris.
The pack is back.

I think a big reason Williams has done so well is getting those starting reps in practice, and really being a core part of the gameplan, not that he wasn't before, but i'm sure they've been gameplaning more to his strengths as a starter than they would have if he was the nickle. I really hope they keep him in there as a big part of they're defense, even when Al is back, because he's shown he can flat out play.
