Bulaga was a LT at Iowa, so i'm sure he'd be able to handle it if that's what it came to.

Sherrod was starting to come on last year before the leg breakage. He should still be able to work out his upper body, should he not? He needed an offseason in the weight room, which I do not believe is necessarily incompatible with the leg injury. Might not be able to get many reps in TC, that's the only thing.

Do we have an update on Sherrod?

Is he healed? will he be 100% by training camp?

I am so happy they finally decided to cut ties. I had hoped they would do it last year -- make that two years ago -- but at least the moment has come at last. The Packers will be able to put that cash to a lot of good uses.

He may not have looked good when he played and now he's coming off the injury, but it's not career-threatening. It's a broken leg. It sounds worse than it really is. Just knowing them and how they stick with their draft picks and develop them, he's the guy that is there to step into a starting role. You have four guys right now if (Chad) Clifton's back. Would it shock me if they went high and drafted another tackle? No way."

He may not have inside info on Derek but most likely he has seen this type of injury in the past.

I wish he could fly off to that secret island and drink from the fountain of youth.

Chad sucked it up and played well and then held his own with injuries when the team needed him to. He worked hard to recover during many off seasons. He is a Packer through and through.

He has the ring.. That is the thing of beauty.

The sad part of this is... Now, for this true warrior it is off to a life of increasing pain and uncomfort that will diminish his quality of life as he ages.

The price you pay for being a gamer for your NFL team and their fans.

Thanks Big Guy! I appreciated you!

Dude was a warrior for 12 years and came back from that weird cheap shot by Sapp. Packer HoF'er all the way. Glad he got his ring. Tauscher too.

Well alot of people got what they wanted so now we need to waste another 1st rounder on an O-lineman but that will make Dfoster happy :)

Boy for a 15-1 team we sure have alot of holes.

Because I could have sworn Marshall Newhouse was a worthwhile prospect who was solid - granted unspectacular - when put into the line-up. This is the same Newhouse who - as a 2nd year player left to his own habits to improve in a lockout shortened off-season - came to camp not only in better shape, but was performing noticeably better too. Surely if his performance during the season does not give you some reason for optimism, then the fact that Newhouse was so disciplined and dedicated when left on his own will give you some reason to think our future LT is already on our roster.

I'm pretty surprised you have not thrown out there the "idea" that the Packers purposely failed Clifton just so they could cut him and save $$$ without much negative press. Because, you know, Ted is a cold SOB that clearly values 5 million dollars much more so than the health of his franchise QB. I mean, why care if his 10+ million dollars invested in A-Rod is comprised as long as he saves 5 million by cutting an aging player, you know?

As for the "lot of holes" comment.... fix the pass rush, and everything else on this team will fall into place. Whether we do it by drafting DEs to improve our D-line, or an OLB to partner with Clay... improving our pass rush will do wonders for our coverage. You can always improve on depth - especially when a core piece of your D like Woodson is old - but frankly that holds true for all teams.

As for Chad, the thing that I will always like about him was his success. He was never the most physically gifted, but his dedication to fundamentals (um, in pass blocking, not so much run blocking) made him a very sound player. Every training camp you'd get a few beat writers talk about how impeccably Chad used his hands. It's hard to root against guys that not only overcome adversity (Warren Sapp hit, anyone?) but also pay close attention to the finer points of their craft. So many days, his performances in games would elicit barely a mention; for a LT, that speaks volumes.

You draft first round players to start, not back up. If the Packers were to draft another Left Tackle, that means they used a first round pick as a backup. Unless Sherrod or Bulaga can play LG or C?

I think the Packers take OLB or DE in the first round, if they don't trade out of it.

Drafting another LT in the first round when they have three tackles on the roster already, just doesn't make sense. Especially since the reports on Derek Sherrod are that he's recovering well. If his recovery has taken a dip, then I'd understand targeting a LT in the first (if he's best player available).

Chad Clifton being let go and the signing of Erik Walden cannot and does not change anything for the Packers. Clifton needed to replace regardless. OLB and DE needs attention regardless of signing Walden.
