God forgive me for agreeing with Dave in any way when he gets in one of contrarian moods, but just this one time, he may possibly be on to something here. I too got a weird "vibe" from Mike McCarthy and his (imo) "quick-trigger" to go all conservative regarding Collins and his health/future. It could all be as described, a very sincere concern with a serious health risk, but I'm not totally convinced... Just too damn quick and too damn emphatatic from a a coach that is usually extraordinarily "close to the vest" when speaking on these injury questions. It did and does make me wonder, so, in an UNPRECEDENTED move on my part, 1 applause point for Dhaze for broaching the possibility. 😝

Why do I have a feeling we are going to see Collins traded before the draft. As far as Packers doctors i don't trust them at all, if you remember correctly the packer doctors failed Favre on a physical when he tried to come back but then a few days later after the trade he had an amazing recovery and passed the Jets physical.

Zero me calling Ted Thompson cold hearted is a compliment to him actually because you have to be to do his job.

Wolf overruled them.

Favre from Falcons to Packers wrote:

I think you're "misremembering" the physical, but here I provided more than my memory to support the facts.

Regarding Nick Collins being traded, I don't think it can be ruled out. I have a feeling he's going to play in 2012 and for the Packers. Nick Collins had the surgery for the sole reason to play in the NFL. Sources stated it was a success. Nick Collins is reportedly very happy with the results and according to his friends wants to hit the field.

I think the Packers are going to let him play, pay him his salary and wait until after the draft, or close to it, to make their intentions public. There's no benefit in telling the other 31 teams know their motives.

I ask again ... why would any team rather $3.5 million over Nick Collins? That question there makes any notion of the Packers thinking money first is crazy-go-nuts.

Zero has already stated the same argument against you guys that I would have. You guys really think they want Nick Collins to retire because of his 3.5 million dollar cap hit? Safeties of his caliber in the league are making twice that. Ed Reed makes 7. After seeing how our defense fell into shambles without him, how can you even begin to wonder if they feel Nick is worth that tiny amount of money. Of course they believe hes worth it, he is worth it, he is worth much more than that. If they want their damn cap space so bad they will cut or restructure Chad Clifton and Donald Driver.

I don't even understand how any of you could possibly believe this had ANYTHING to do about money.

It's Nick's career and Nick's future, he should be the one deciding.

Playing football is a risk. Practicing is a risk. The game is a risk. All these players knew that going into the sport as children.

I do recall some saying if Nick Collins wants to play and the doctors (his an Packers) have cleared him, then the Packers should let him play. Especially if his family is okay with him playing.

How many times have coaches and doctors told a player they couldn't/shouldn't go back on the field and the player lied their way back onto the field? Or in Brett Favre's case, simply ran back onto the field, threw a TD to Javon Walker and then got his helmet taken?

Players want to play no matter what. If they are old & done, or if hurt, they want to play. They have been conditioned to think that way (to play hurt) otherwise 1. They will lose their jobs and 2. they will be called "soft".

To say "it's up to the player" puts the player at risk 90% of the time.

While I am not a person that agrees with all the "rule" changes that many feel makes the "softer", I am for teams taking a stand with certain types of injuries and telling a player "NO, we are not going to allow you to take that type of risk on our team, and feel it is best for you and your long term health & future to NOT play."

To me that type of statement would not only speak volumes to fans, but also teammates and the NFL as a whole.

Nick is always going to want to play, hell look at Brett Favre, he still wanted to play for how long?! In 2008 I broke my arm (humorous) pitching (literally while I was releasing the ball) in a semi-pro baseball game and now have a rod and 8 screws in it. I can't throw ANYWHERE NEAR what I used but I still want to play. I haven't played in an adult softball game, played catch w/ my sons, or even walked onto a diamond as a player since I broke it, but I still have that urge to go out there.

My point is as a player or former player sometimes you have to have people tell you "enough is enough". In my case my wife had been telling me for a year that she would rather me stop playing. 6 weeks before I broke my arm, my teammate broke his the exact same way, releasing a pitch, and for the 1st time since I started playing ball (at the age of 6) I got scared on the field and started to question and re-evaluate things. After I heard my arm break in mid-pitch, I knew it was over. My wife never told me "I told you to stop", instead she said "let's find something else for you to put as much passion into" (outside my family).

I think (and this is my opinion) that Mrs. Collins & family would rather be safe then sorry with Nick. WE would not have to help Nick with therapy, help him bathe, clean him after he uses the restroom, take him to various Dr. appointments or worse, lay him to rest, THEY WOULD. It seems to me like people are far to concerned with "what it would do to the Packers" vs what it would do to a family.

Dictionary is the only place that success comes before work.
Hard work is the price we must pay for success.
I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price
