For those of you that don’t know, this is the OTS (On The Sidelines) Packers Rumor Report. The OTS are Packers rumors that I obtain through various sources that I have come to know through my years doing radio. They are sources in NFL in various capacities and do have direct knowledge of what is being discussed by decision makers and front office personnel. Please keep in mind what a rumor is, hence what the OTS is:

RUMOR:

n.

A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
Unverified information received from another; hearsay.

It appears that the free agent shopping spree that GM Ted Thompson went on is over. While the Packers had DE/OLB Dave Tollefson in for a visit, he was only offered a 1 year deal for the minimum. This was reported a few days ago by the Packers beat writers.

Nick Collins, his agent and the Packers decision makers are discussing what the next move is for Collins and the team. While the rumor is Collins received the “OK” to resume his career, the Thompson and Mike McCarthy are not to sure if they want to take the enhanced risk of letting Collins play for the Packers. This is a highly fluid situation and the Packers brass wants whats best for Collins long term (after football) and was told they are 80-90% certain he won’t be a Packer in 2012 and if he is (a Packer)” he needs to get in the sales business after he retires”. I was told from an NFC Scout that he wouldn’t let Collins play for his team because “a neck injury is nothing to play with and the risk doesn’t outweigh the reward.”

As much as I like Collins, kudos to 🇲🇲 and 🇹🇹 for taking his health over winning. It shows that the two of them are human beings rather than monsters. As big as a football fan as I am, I don't believe in winning at all costs.

oh snap! Look at Joe using the site to spring folks to his site by throwing down a little snippet/teaser. 😉

If a doctor is willing to say Nick Collins can play in the National Football League ... that's kind of crazy to me.

PS, Joe your site needs a new 'favicon' cuz the default Wordpress one is junk. 😛

Yeah, wtf. If a doctor says it's OK, do Ted and Mike know better? Where did they get their medical degrees?

They don't need degrees to know that it is a HUGE RISK to have Collins play. It is not about football, it is about living life and being able to walk and play w/ his kids. There is more to life then playing for the Packers. THAT is what they are thinking about.

Like McCarthy said, if Collins were his son, he'd tell him to NOT PLAY anymore because of the high risk of something even worse then not being able to play football again. A Dr. can say or clear him to play, that doesn't mean it's what best for him.

I could try helping you upgrade your site's theme for sure.

Food for thought though, telling folks to hit PackersHome.com is easier to say than navigate to theaveragejoeshow.wordpress.com and we're already decently accessible via Google. JUST SAYING! 😛

If not, why the heck would the doctor clear him?

There's no more risk now than there was before the injury. Otherwise the doctors wouldn't have cleared him.

We have debated and debated and debated what we think Nick should do. And surprisingly everyone is of the same opinion as they were last year.

I see we now are ignoring the the 2 or 3 threads devoted to that subject in order to talk about here too. DEPRESSING.

Back to the OTS- I find this one of the more interesting comments but still very typical for Uncle Teddy.

I was told that the Packers would indeed move up a few slots for a certain few players. They have narrowed their board down to the guys that they feel would be available around the time of their pick, but won’t overpay to move up a few slots.

He would move up a few slots but he is not going to try and jump 20 which I find reassuring. 👍

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
