Doesn't have to be... all you have to do is look at what we have to offer. Many combinations of players and picks that we can part with, painlessly, to move up, and get what we need.

Not saying it will happen either. Just an observation... that we have what 7 of the top 12 teams in draft order need. WR. TE. Picks.

Guys like Jones and our backup TEs only have value in OUR eyes. (I happen to believe, for instance, that James Jones is a #2 WR on many teams in the NFL -- if he didn't have the dropsies. And that's a big IF)

A receiving skill-position trade-for-draft-pick is about as likely as my mother suddenly accepting the gay lifestyle (read: HIGHLY unlikely)

William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

The only decent trade bait I see the Packers having is AJ Hawk and even then, I don't see that happening. James Jones is not good enough (even paired with the other names and draft picks) to get us top spot.

I don't see A.J. Hawk or James Jones being traded. Someone had mentioned that Ted Thompson has a sweet spot for Hawk. I don't know differently to say otherwise, but who knows. James Jones couldn't get a deal as a free agent, I'm not sure who's going to give something up for him now.

I do think the Packers are in a good position to trade up. They are tight against the cap, have a solid roster and wouldn't surprise me if the Packers packaged a 3rd plus a fill in player to move up a handful of spots. I just don't see it happening.

play2win is right in one aspect. GB is poised to trade up. It is not with players it is with draft picks.

As is the case so often in the NFL teams are more likely to trade draft picks than players. I could see GB giving up their first and second to move up. They would wait until the last min and do so only if they had a specific player in mind like the did for CM3.
keep posting. let's hear you ideas and opinions.

My initial post was just a thought, and I did not read through the whole board before signing up. I knew using Jones as an example would probably not be well received. However, the guy's talent (on many teams in this league he could be a legit #1 WR) and low cap figure is valuable to both the Packers and to any other trading partner in need of WR help. He may carry more value to some teams than we might think.

My larger point in all of this is we are indeed loaded to make moves, we have a ton of WRs and TEs, and 7 of those top 12 teams in this year's draft need help at those positions. I don't normally advocate trading up, but we are so completely loaded with picks and players at positions of need, and we have so few openings on our roster, that this is a good year to move around and get those guys we really want badly.

So, if we take Jones out of the equation, the only players I see where we could really trade a player for a top 10ish slot - straight up - without hurting ourselves too badly are Finley, Jennings or Nelson. I think we are deep enough to take the hit of losing any one of those guys, though I wouldn't want to lose any of the 3. As a matter of fact, Jennings is up after this season. He might be tough to sign, and tough to trade.

One more thing on Jones. Is there anybody here who doesn't think Larry Fitzgerald wouldn't love having James Jones starting opposite himself at WR in 2012? The Cardinals are a relatively "cheap," family run organization. They need a lot of players, including an immediate starter opposite LF. I think packaging Jones and picks for a move up to #14 is very realistic.

How many here would trade Jones, Taylor + all of our picks in rounds 3-7 straight up for #14? We walk away with #14, 28, 60, 132, 133, 241 and 245, seven players. Certainly not say this would happen, or that it should, just that it is close in value according to draft value chart.

Better yet, how many here would trade Jones and a 4th round pick straight up for a 2nd round pick prior to the draft? I would.

If DJ Smith can put on some size, that'd be great. Isn't he only like 5'10" or something close?
