True, plus eight dropped passes. The shame is, the Giants didn't beat the Packers. The Packers, more sprcifically the offense, lost that game.

The Packers were missing some pieces last season to be a true champion, to me it is a pure accreditation to the offense the we achieved what we did in 2011.

I could talk about balance on offense to assist our fatal flaws on defense.. but it was clear that the plan of attack was to open up the offense and try to outrun everyone weekly. Does little to assist the defense and defend the weakness.. but the offense was dominate enough to do it 15 out of 17 times.

Sooner or later the offense isn't going to carry the load. It just happened in a playoff game. Season over.

That is not fatally flawed. At worst it is room for improvement.

Compared to the drops which have the widest gulf to close, the D was not bad.

You fix the things that have the most impact. Drops have a huge impact. Scoring has the most impact.

Yards have not impact, so fixing them is a waste of effort. If we draft to fix the yards given up on pass D, you might as well flush those draft picks down the toilet.

Dropped passes lost more games for the Packers than the yards did.

Okay.. I can throw out a couple numbers to defend my statement as well.. easily. Right off the NFL site, and I hate basing football off numbers.. they tell only a fragment of the story IMO.

Third down percentage given up.

43%... bottom third of the league.

22.4 first downs a game. 3rd worst in the NFL.

1049 plays defensed... bottom 10 of the league. Since we couldn't get off the field defensively it kept our offense off the field. Heightening the importance of each and every possession, and yes elevating the importance of the miscues on offense, including drops.

29 sacks... bottom 10 in the league.

29 receiving touchdowns.. 5th worst in the league.

122 Defensive Penalties Tied for second worst in the league.

22.4 points a game.. dead center of the league. Our defense tightened up as the opposing offense got towards the endzone.. where our overload in coverages help mask the inability to apply any pressure by the defense.

The fatal flaw.. Capers lost confidence in the ability for his defense to get home on the pass rush, electing to try an overload the coverages to little avail. This year.. the lack of confidence up front shifted the advantage to the opposing offenses and allowed them to dictate to us.. against our defense and indirectly to the offense by reducing the touches we got.

Yes.. the Packers may very well have outgunned there way to the Superbowl ala the Patriots.. but the odds were not in the favor of doing it. Not in a more balanced NFC.

4th down stops first in the league.
Forced FGs second in the league.
Ints first in the league.

I am saying over all, they were not the worst D. Overall, they need to improve. But so does every thing else on the team.

The drops were bigger than the Ds problems. They were also game losers and have the most room to improve.

The bigger thing on D was the big plays. Quite a few were cause by insecure tackling. Even Bishop had 11 missed tackles so it isn't something you can blame on any one person. More that the secondary was playing man rather than zone so they were all running away from the line of scrimmage instead of playing down hill. Reducing the gang tackling and forcing more one on ones. Which is a lot easier to defeat.

Then you also have to consider the game situations. Quite often they were playing with huge leads. Playing softer and keeping the play in front of them and keeping the clock moving. The yards, first downs, scores and completions meant a lot less than burning clock when you have a 3 score lead. They forced teams to go for it on 4th down and fail. They forced teams to settle for 3 and they took the ball away.

When you have a big lead, who cares if you give up lots of yards, first downs and field goals? It was a choice, not a failure.
