To draft pure BPA isn't very smart. I mean, if Stephen Hill falls to us, do we draft him? I mean we'd only have Jennings, Jones, Nelson, Cobb, Driver and Stephen Hill then.

What about if Tannehill fell to us? Do we draft him because he's the best player avaivable?

BPA in area of need is the way to go.

Ted Thompson puts value on certain positions. He looks at QB, the offensive line, and defensive front seven. This is his trend in the first round. Those are his valued positions, which correlate to best player available. It's all subjective. We look at Justin Harrell and don’t see BPA. We may look at Dwayne Bowe as BPA. Ted Thompson would argue that a defensive lineman is more valuable than a receiver is. Therefore, he’s taking the BPA.

Another example is B.J. Raji and Michael Crabtree. Many thought Crabtree was a higher rated prospect than Raji. However, in terms of value, Raji ranks higher than Crabtree because he plays a premium position. In other words, BPA has more to do with the value of the position than the players. Perhaps there are exceptions, but thus far, this has been the first round philosophy.

Ted Thompson takes what he feels is the best player available and no one can argue he doesn't, unless they see his "best player available" chart, lol.

I would assume that Ted gives every player a number value that includes talent, position and character. If there are several players that have the same value, he picks the one we need most.

Since the majority of draft picks are not really fully functional for 3-5 years, Ted picks them for 3-5 years down the road.

Reaching to get an area of need is a good way to pass up higher rated players. Then your opponents will take that higher rated player. In 5 years of drafting 10 players a year, you will wind up with a weaker team if you believe in picking by need. Specially in the higher rounds.

As for someone saying pick BPA because you never know when injuries happen, it's not really smart that way either. Let's say the pure BPA for the first three picks is a WR. How many WRs are we going to carry if no one gets injured? Then suddenly a defensive lineman gets injured and there's no depth because no players were drafted for that position.

I agree we need DL, OLB, CB, and SS, but you forget one very important need - OL. I'm surprised Wade and Foster haven't railed you yet.

If 🇦🇷 goes down, the season is over. 🇹🇹 and 🇲🇲 are fully aware of this. 2010 when we won the SB, we actually had a pretty good OL. Sports Illustrated actually wrote a good article on how good our OL was that year in the SB issue.

Btw, 🇹🇹 drafts a WR every year. 2005 still makes him grind his teeth at night.

If you pass up on a better player for any reason, some team will take him and have better players than you do.

Do that enough times and eventually they will have a better team than you at every position.

TT will trade away our 1st and 2nd to the browns for their 1st and 2nd round picks next year. We have no holes on our team after all we were 15-1 in the regular season 🙂

BTW if Ted Thompson actually did that I would be happy with it. We could almost move up to the Patriots league on how every year they end up with like 3 or 4 picks in the 1st 2 rounds.

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I think we trade back and select Jared Crick. Maybe a trade back allows us to land Harrison Smith.

Regarding selecting BPA is you are loaded with that talent imagine the GMs that have to look at players like Adrian Peterson who they passed on because of need. Probably looking at him from the unemployment line.

Packers trade up in 1st round and take Melvin Ingram.

or

Packers trade out of the 1st round and take Ronnell Lewis in the 2nd round.

Two completely opposite scenarios, but two scenarios I'd be pleased with.

Martha Careful (16m) : thank you Mucky for sticking up for me
Martha Careful (16m) : some of those people are smarter than you zero. However Pete Carroll is not
Mucky Tundra (3h) : Rude!
beast (4h) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (8h) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (10h) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (12h) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
