I was reading Jason Wilde's blog  and noticed a blurb about the Packers running game.

I just think we can be smarter when we run the ball and how we run the ball. We do this every year. You have to be real critical of everything, whether it's the play selection, what we're asking each player to do as far as the type of scheme, whether it's a zone scheme, pattern schemes.

More creativity, less volume. That's something that is kind of our motto when it comes down to building offensive scheme and defensive scheme every year. Do we have too many runs in the game plan? That's something we're looking at. Are there things we can add, take out? Those types of things. But really, I think we can do a better job, per situation, running the football. That's what we're taking a hard look at.

Did he seriously ask if they have too many runs in the game plan? lol

I do agree with the point I think he was getting at. Which is to execute a running play at more opportune times. I thought last year the run plays were predictable in nature and expected. How many of us on 3rd an long shouted "draw play" and were correct? That's one example.

Not to mention, when was the last time we saw the slightest bit of misdirection from a Packers running play? It's almost always straight up the gut or if it's going wide, it is well telegraphed. The few times the Packers have attempted a little deception, the run has been snuffed out before it had a chance to develop.

I really, really hope they fix the miscommunication problems with James Starks in the coming season. It was annoying to see how impotent he became down the stretch in 2011. He never seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

I'd love to see them run screens, but only if they do it well. For instance, I hate it when it looks like they're throwing the ball to the guy in the other jersey.

I was really upset when Green went down. He was being groomed to be the third down screen back. Also, don't you think Cobb should line up in the backfield occassionally? The threat of his option pass in addition to his speed should demand a couple snaps a game.

The argument for the running game vs the passing game has never been about a percent from one to another.. or running just to run.

It has always been, from my perspective been about keeping the defense off balance in their pre-snap reads and avoiding giving the defense an advantage before the ball is snapped. It sounds insignificant, but it is all about the split second that forces the defense to read the play at the snap and pause them even for the slightest moment to allow the offense to gain the advantage.

The winning element to football always has been and always will be dictating your will upon the other team. You win that battle, thy force will be with you more often than not.

I don't give two pinches less about the type of offense you run.. power run, run and shoot, whatever... if you can dictate your will upon the defense and force them to adjust their gameplan.. advantage you.

Same principle on defense but the target is slightly different.. there it is all about taking offensive elements away and then forcing them to become predictable to enhance your chances of making a play.

Hence.. why I maintain, catering to the glory boys that are the QB's and making them out as the end all be all is a mistake in most cases. Sure there are special players at the position, just like any other position, the truly make them special. But for the most part, just because they play the position of QB doesn't make them any more vital to your success than most any other position upon the team.

Green was a good running back, but honestly he was afforded roads carved out by a physical line with a different run blocking scheme.

Again.. it all about dictating to the opposition. We had the talent and wanted to tear the defenses heart out on the ground and set up the pass for Brett and a not real deep receiving corp with a starting tight end that I could probably outrun. LOL.

It was the OL. The only year A Green was "elite" was 2003 and note that we had not one, not two, but 3 RBs who averaged over 5 ypc. That's no coincidence.

Thus I maintain we need a stronger OL.

As for less running plays, 🇲🇲 is just talking about the total number of plays. You can have only 10 running plays in your playbook but if you're good at all 10, you'll be way better than a team with 100 running plays that only do well with 2 of them consistently.

packerfanoutwest (41m) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (2h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (12h) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (12h) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (12h) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (12h) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (16h) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (16h) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (16h) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (19h) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (19h) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (19h) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (19h) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (19h) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (19h) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (19h) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (19h) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (20h) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (20h) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (20h) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (20h) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (21h) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (21h) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (21h) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (21h) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (21h) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (22h) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (22h) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (22h) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (22h) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (22h) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23h) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
