The Green Bay Packers have signed P Jeremy Kapinos to the active roster and signed WR Lorne Sam to the practice squad. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Wednesday.

Kapinos, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound first-year player, spent time with the New York Jets in 2007. An All-America selection at Penn State, he will wear No. 7.

Sam, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound rookie, spent time this year with the Denver Broncos. He will wear No. 18.

West Springfield High School-----

Fairfax County, VA. Oh, oh.......

Remember my remember the Titans story?

West Springfield is one of the other "wedged" schools...(although not as wedged as mine)

Thank God he isn't a kicker!

Scott Norwood nightmare tonight for me.

On a more serious note, I found this blog from the NY Jets (last year)

Kapinos: One and Done or Take Two?

File Under: Ben Graham, Jeremy Kapinos, Kansas City, Penn State, Meadowlands Westhoff Nugent

change font email article 12/29 Jeremy Kapinos was none the worse for wear after his brush with greatness last weekend in Nashville.

"I was pretty excited, pretty pumped," said Kapinos, who at his locker, away from the field, doesn't give the impression that he's an excited, pumped kind of guy, more low-key like most punters I've met over the years. "I think it was the same way my freshman year of college. Once that first one was over, I was OK."

It may have been a shock to see Kapinos getting the punting and holding call over Ben Graham, a healthy scratch, against the Titans, but J-Kap (if I may be so bold as to give him a nickname) has been under the major spotlight before, as Penn State's punter for four seasons.

And so when it was over, Kapinos' line looked professional: five punts, 41.6-yard gross, 36.4 net, on touchback on the first punt of his pro career and two touchbacks, including a brilliant downing of his fourth punt at the Titans 2 by Justin McCareins.

"On my first one, Coach Westhoff said, 'It'd be nice to have that one to the 10,' " Kapinos said. "Once I got that one out of the way, I kind of settled down and my nerves went back to normal."

It was not a normal punting situation since the Jets brought Kapinos back to the practice squad Nov. 27, then up to the active roster the day before the Tennessee game. But Kapinos thanked Graham for pitching in.

"Ben's been great. I couldn't have asked for a better situation," the rookie instep said. "He told me a lot about how to be a professional in every aspect of the word, in terms of work, taking care of yourself. I'm definitely grateful that I've had him to help me along. The same with Mike [Nugent] and Coach Westhoff."

As for whether he "earned" a second game as the rookie punter for the Green & White, Kapinos said, "Whatever's decided is fine with me."

It's hard to say if Kapinos' pro career is over, or if he'll kick again Sunday in the season finale against Kansas City, if he'll be with the Jets next season or with some other team. Head coach Eric Mangini wasn't revealing as late as Friday who'll be handling James Dearth's short and long snaps vs. the Chiefs.

He was on the Jets practice squad, activated for 3 games, punted in one for the Jets (against Tennessee), kicked 5 punts for a 41.6 gross, 36.4 net, accoring to the MWJS.

I wonder what's his hang time. He does have a good leg from the 5 game stats that we're saying, well a lot better then Frost ... I wonder how good is his hang time cause that also makes a big difference.

Will judge him this sunday I guess. Unless the offense keeps scoring on every drive 🙂.

One thing I can assure you about. Our head coach is not trying to over-hype the young man. It could be argued that he has taken some of his classic one-liners like "pad level" and "he's got a knee" and outdone himself this time.

When Mike McCarthy was asked what he thinks about his new punter, he said, "I want him to punt it in the right direction." Now, if that isn't a ringing endorsement chock-full of optimism, well, I don't know what is. :thumbleft:

Zero2Cool (5h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (8h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (8h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (10h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (10h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (10h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (10h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (10h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (10h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (10h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (10h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (10h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (10h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (10h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (10h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (11h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (12h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (12h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (12h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
