My personal theory, however, and one I believe is backed up by research, is that the leading cause of male sexual dysfunction is the ubiquity of internet pornography. Recent neurophysiological studies have shed some fascinating light on the effects of pornography on the brain, specifically the reward pathways. Habitual users of porn have very similar brain chemistry to that of habitual drug users. Just as drug users develop a tolerance to their drug and have to use increasingly larger doses to get the same effect, so also habitual porn users have to view increasingly extreme forms of imagery to get off. It used to be that a man might see a handful of women naked in his entire life. Now a teenage boy can see 30 naked women in as many seconds. Eventually his brain gets so inured to the constant spikes of dopamine and other reward chemicals that his penis literally goes numb. It's not that there is anything physically wrong with his anatomy; it's just that his brain no longer can respond sufficiently to stimuli.

He talked about his sexual needs while on the road, and eventually porn and masturbation didn't do it for him, so he had to get hookers. Eventually, he said, he got 2 of them at the same time.. then did more extreme stuff. When he would have chance to 'make love' to his wife, he couldn't get up. You could tell he was pretty torn up about that part.

And not only the amount, but also the things you can find. I mean, they've got just about every niche and preference covered. I can imagine that sex can become "just sex" when you see a guy and two women throwing feces at eachother, if that's what you're into.

But yeah, a bunch of truths on here. We get numb from over-stimulation and magazine perfections make an unrealistic view of women should look like.

With you young ones though, I'm still convinced videogames are the biggest culprit. Your generation would rather play videogames than make sweet love to a good woman. [palm] Or maybe not exactly your generation but that is how my son and his friends are. 😣 I don't know if you're past that age or not.

I'm not asking to slam you, just want to know where the cut off is. Are your friends more interested in videogames than girls? Is it an age thing? Or is it an American thing?

I think video games inhibit the game players maturity level to a degree and that slows their desire for companionship. The video game world lets them be whom they want, how they want, and when they want with little effort or fear of rejection. I think it's more on the lines of the different stages of maturing. Some youths mature to want the opposite sex sooner than others.

sex talk...weeeeeeee!!! oops, momentary immature reaction there.

anyway, my opinion is that we are a completely over-sexed society. nothing is left to the imagination. you have a fantasy? look thru any magazine & you'll probably find a picture of it or look on the internet & you can see a movie about it. everywhere you go, women have their tata's hangin out, skin tight clothes, & most look like they should be on the damn corner. you can't tell a 14 year old from a 25 year old anymore.

me? i'm a conservative dresser. i love my low rise levi's (tight but not too tight), but on top, i cover up. i have big boobs (yes, they're real) & guess what? you can tell they're big even when i'm wearing a comfy sweatshirt. why on earth would i feel the need to have them bulging out of a tight sweater? i just don't get it. also, my ass isn't hanging out the back either. that is disgusting! especially 300 lb women wearing thongs with their buttcracks showing - ewwww!

guess it makes those times i do dress a little sexy all the more exciting for my husband.
then again, he thinks the best place for lingerie is on the floor & thinks it's sexy when i put on one of his dress shirts.

I just spent about half my monthly salary on Valentines Day plans and sat through a full hour(!) of The Notebook, so my interests are obviously not with video games anymore.

It's not as much a total generation thing as it is a certain part of it. Or at least, that's the way it is over here. I have a couple of friends that barely go out and just sit around playing World of Warcraft, the new Star Wars game etc. I don't know if they're not interested in women. I very much doubt that, actually. It's just that they're too shy, too insecure etc.

On the other hand, I have a couple of friends who I go out with at least two nights a week and generally, one of those nights isn't succesful when you don't pick up a girl. Not exactly something I aspire to do or can do (We don't all have Rourke relationships), but both groups are in the same age category. It's not fully age related.

And yes, when I have some time left, just sitting here, I do still play Madden or MLB. The two aren't mutually exclusive. ;)

I'm fairly confident there's always been a certain something that's kept youths away from exploring their raging hormones for every generation. The more recent just happens to be video games. I highly doubt 50-100 years ago there wasn't something that held youths from exploring their sexual urges.

The french pegged this one.

We like nips we just barely cannot see, and the curvature getting to 'em. Levi Strauss cannot deliver that. The sooner you women-folk realize that, the sooner we can all get back to haba da gee, lol

Providing a post of uncharacteristic openness here - usually don't talk about any part of my personal life, certainly not this personal.

I somewhat fit into this category, as a 25 year old married man (married 6 months). While the concept of sex is still interesting, the concept of me being involved in sex has been damn close to zero over the last month or so. Chalk it up to long-term stress at work, winter depression catching up with me a bit late (mild winter in WI), and more recently a pretty messy position change at work that's more or less a work in progress with no additional pay but added responsibility and somewhere between a non-promotion and a demotion as far as company standing goes despite glowing praises at every turn by my boss.

Stress in general lowers my libido and I guess I don't find sex as an activity that reduces stress. It doesn't raise it, just tend to not be interested or even think of it if I'm stressed. I guess I'll see if a week-long vacation/belated honeymoon in Vegas/Grand Canyon will fix things. 🙂

My first responses were porn and soy. Since porn has been well covered here let's give some consideration to soy. Soy beans are known to contain estrogen and soy is in EVERYTHING. It is used as a filler in so many things. I believe that increased exposure to estrogen plays some part in all of this.
