Men are losing interest in sex

The excuse "I've got a headache" has already been taken by their wives.

So all the men who are losing their libido will have to come up with a different reason.

Experts are reporting a sharp rise in the number of husbands who have simply "gone off" passion.

They believe that the rising incidence of depression ? or our increasingly stressful working culture ? may be to blame.

Relationship counsellors report a 40 per cent increase in male clients admitting that, despite being physically able to have sex, they do not want to.

Peter Bell, head of practice at Relate, said: "Men used to come to us with impotence but Viagra has sorted some of that problem.

"What we have is a lot of men who say, as women did in the Fifties: "I can have sex, but I don't want to.

"It's not rewarding". Mr Bell said such complaints were unheard of ten years ago.

"They tend to be men in their thirties, forties and fifties and married," he said.

"It is a serious issue. It counts as a psychosexual dysfunction, rather than just a relationship problem, because these men haven't simply gone off their partner but off sex altogether."

One example is Billy, 43, a graphic designer from Newcastle-upon-Tyne who has been married for ten years.
He said his sexual desire had waned dramatically over the past three years.

"I still love my wife and am very clear that she's the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with but I just don't want to make love with her any more," he said.

"I don't fancy or fantasise about other women. It's just that, over the years, my desire to have sex with anyone at all has faded.

"It's true that I have a stressful job but previously sex helped me relax and forget my work problems.

"I'm baffled by my lack of interest, but not particularly unhappy."

Professor Michael King, of the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London, believes depression might be the problem.

Last week, he completed a study into mental illness across six countries which found the rate of major depression and panic syndrome was highest among men in Britain.

"Men are most likely to suffer depression between the ages of 30 and 50," he said.

"One of the explanations is that men are less able to talk about their problems than women, or express their emotions."

Professor Cary Cooper, president of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, added: "Britain's work culture has gone from nine to five to extremely long hours, which makes for a very stressful life.

"Stress can be cumulative, which means eventually people can find it impossible to switch off and relax."
Sales of make-up for men are booming, with bronzers, brow pencils, eyeliners and concealers
A spokesman for Harvey Nichols, which has just launched John Paul Gaultier?s male make-up range, said this was a natural extension of the trend for male grooming products.

The men's toiletries market was worth an estimated £806million last year, up from £639million in 2002.
Lee Kynaston, grooming editor at Men's Health magazine, said products such as Clinique's M Cover stick, a concealer, had made men's make-up a mainstream product.

"Anything that can make you look better has to be worth investigating," he said.
But he urged users to employ a light hand, saying: "Men still want to be men, and women want men to look like men."

lol, probably.

On my way to work today, they were listing off the top 35 reasons women turn their guy down for sex ... and found this article. I didn't know men were making excuses to not have sex.

I saw an article online yesterday for the Top 34 (or was it 35?) excuses men have for turning down sex. I didn't read it though.

Right now we are seeing something unprecedented in human history: men in their 20s suffering from erectile dysfunction. Back when Kinsey first released his reports, less than 2 percent of men in their 40s reported having problems with erectile dysfunction. Now it's not only commonplace, it's almost considered routine to hand out Viagra to very young men. That's beyond unfortunate; it's borderline tragic. We have pathologized sex.

There are a lot of potential culprits behind this modern epidemic, of course: No doubt mounting rates of obesity caused by excess caloric consumption and insufficient exercise play a role. Video games are probably also a factor. Zombieslayer loves to talk about how boys these days would rather play first-person shooters than fuck.

My personal theory, however, and one I believe is backed up by research, is that the leading cause of male sexual dysfunction is the ubiquity of internet pornography. Recent neurophysiological studies have shed some fascinating light on the effects of pornography on the brain, specifically the reward pathways. Habitual users of porn have very similar brain chemistry to that of habitual drug users. Just as drug users develop a tolerance to their drug and have to use increasingly larger doses to get the same effect, so also habitual porn users have to view increasingly extreme forms of imagery to get off. It used to be that a man might see a handful of women naked in his entire life. Now a teenage boy can see 30 naked women in as many seconds. Eventually his brain gets so inured to the constant spikes of dopamine and other reward chemicals that his penis literally goes numb. It's not that there is anything physically wrong with his anatomy; it's just that his brain no longer can respond sufficiently to stimuli.

There are a lot of men out there who are porn addicts and don't even realize it. They might think they are just recreational viewers and not even use it for masturbatory reasons, but they are addicts nonetheless. I should know -- I was one of them. I had assumed for years I just had low libido, or that reports of average male libido were simply sensationalized. It wasn't until after I started reading about this stuff last summer that I had the startling realization I was a porn addict. I was deeply convicted. So I cut out all forms of visual titillation cold turkey: no pictures (not even swim suits), no videos, nothing. Rather to my surprise, I started to go through the classical signs of withdrawal. My libido fluctuated wildly for a while. But after about a week, it started to roar back. In fact, I was caught off guard by how powerful it was. I felt, well, like a teenager again. My sex life improved dramatically, much to the satisfaction of my wife.

Since then I have worked with a number of men, ranging in age from early 20s to 40s, all of whom were experiencing varying degrees of sexual dysfunction. One of them, a man of 30, had done so much masturbation to internet porn that he hadn't been able to get off inside a woman in almost a decade. It took almost three months for his libido to return, but now he has a remarkably successful sex life and says that he has never had so much confidence and stamina in bed before. Another man was 29 and hadn't had sex in over 8 years. He is now in a happy relationship and preparing to get engaged.

If I were a parent of teenagers, I would block all forms of internet porn in my home. I would also probably ban video games altogether, because I have noticed that on the days I do play, my brain is so overstimulated that I have little to no interest in sex. Needless to say, that does not endear me to the wife.

All that being said, I still believe that descriptions of male sexuality have been exaggerated over the past century and a half -- particularly by feminists as a way to discredit men. Historically, until the rise of the male-bashing brand of feminism in the late 19th century, it was always considered a given that women had much stronger libidos than men. Portraying all men as potential sexual predators, however, gave feminists a bugaboo around which to rally their forces. But given the fact that over the course of human existence, only 40 percent of men have managed to reproduce compared to 80 percent of women, I think it's hard to dispute that women have a much stronger drive to pass on their genes than men do.

If any of you are interested in learning more about this topic, send me a message. I would be happy to send you some videos that go into painstaking detail about the physiological processes at work here.

I've never been into porn or magazines for that matter. A few years ago I was offered a subscription to Playboy for $9.95 or something for 12 issues. I figured, what the hell? I know most kid around and say they read the articles more than looked at the pictures, but its true for me. When I looked at the pictures, I was bored because I could see where they were touched up, faked, doctored and what have you. It ruined it for me. But reading the the bio stuff on the woman interested me greatly as did the jokes section.

Perhaps my lack of interest in porn is why I continue to have a very healthy sex drive. Or I just am stuck with a teenager's libido.

I find the pictures in Playboy and Penthouse boring too. The women just aren't my type, and (especially in Penthouse) they are so retouched they literally look plastic to me. Maybe there are men who are turned on by plastic, but I am not one of them.

I would guess you just have a normal libido, the way a healthy man is supposed to.

I don't find it off topic at all, and I think there is a lot of truth to what you say.

Here's an empirical project for you, Rourke:

What is the correlation between (a) a man's relative addiction to porn and (b) the level of precision with which a man defines "hotness"?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
