From what I understand.... Brett has not said he will Re-Up with the JETS.

He has not committed to playing for them next year. The Jets are in kinda in limbo when it comes to the QB of the future.

QUESTION?

Many of you on this forum know way more than I.

Is it possible that after this year Brett could ask the Jets for his outright release.. And then become a free agent, to go to the Vikings or Bears like he wanted to do at the beginning of this season.

Did the Packers factor that in when they traded him to the JETS?

Wondering... Because I feel he will be back with force next year, but I think he still has the same desire he had at the start of this season.... And wants to be in Minny or Chicago to stick it to Green Bay.

I think there's no protection for the Jets releasing him next year. I might be wrong on that one though.

I don't see any reason for the Jets to release him anyway, especially if he still wants to play and I asume he won't get into such a thing like last year in GB again if he can start for the Jets

If he'd ask for his release and joined the Vikings or Bears though, I think it would harm his reputation in GB pretty badly.

I have nothing but respect for the man, but that would be a downright slap in the face to Packers fans.

With Favre.....who KNOWS what his motives are?
Anything is possible.

He could and I'm guessing that's what will happen. I think he'll be a Viking next season.

Brett is too loyal for that..

Say what you will about the man, but something tells me, if he is playing next year, it will be with the Jets.. he has built ties with them already.. just as he did here.

He retired.. but forget not that he wanted to play here first upon coming back.. I don't buy for a second that Brett is on a mission today to destroy the Packers or one up Thompson.. that doesn't mean they will probably ever talk civil in the next five years.

During the divorce last year.. Brett was pissed no doubt.. but just like a divorce.. things are done on emotion.

Brett has always been a man of great character.. I can't see him wanting to play and not giving the Jets the first opportunity for them to have him on their team.. period.

IMO.. of course.

But to the point of RP's question.. Brett's contract runs through I believe 2010.. I also believe if the Jets release him from contract this year, they are relieved of any additional penalties.

But honestly, why would they release him? The man can still play and has trade able value.. the Jets would be in the same boat the Packer found themselves this past year..

Well, they won't release him. I never thought they would.

They could, however, trade him. If Favre for some reason wouldn't want to play for the Jets (Which I don't see happening) they could trade him to the Vikes... maybe for a first rounder even. That one seems plausible.

Like you said in your previous post though, Brett looks like he's loyal to one team and will give whatever he has to to get the team going. I don't think he's out for revenge either.

The Jets are a great team, even at this point. With another draft and maybe some FA pick-ups, they could go to a SB. They just have to, like the Packers, get out the inconsistency it seems.

Part of the conditions of the trade was if the Jets traded him to a listing of teams, the Jets would owe compensation to the Packers in that event..

I believe it was 2 1st round picks.. could be wrong.

Aah, I thought that expired in one year.

If that one stays up, they would be stupid to trade him into the NFC North. ^^

In article after article.. no expiration date of this clause was given..

http://www.packershome.com/index.php?name=ForumsPro&file=viewtopic&p=33290#33290

The trade agreement was structured to prevent the Jets from dealing Favre to the Vikings, his No. 1 choice. The Jets would have to give three No. 1 picks to the Packers if they made such a move, a league source confirmed.
