I think he will leave them hanging till after training camp then announce he will play. Then after preseason he will announce he's retireing.

Continuing this, does anybody think Brett will do the retire/unretire thing this offseason?

As for whether he plays for the Jets, are they on the sunny side of the cap? What will be Brett's hit? $13m?

My guess would be "YES".
They will have to deal with the "Will he won't he" crap that we dealt with for the last several years.

That's one thing I won't miss. Too much drama.

I agree DGB.
It was getting kind of old. And this last year was the FIRST time i thought he WOULDN'T retire. Had a great year, everything looking up........and he quits.
That was the one time i thought it was a shoe in that he'd be back.
Then the back and forth crap........i was fed up with it.

Why would that bother you cheezy? How does that effect your life?

"DGB454" wrote:

Why?
Because i'm a huge Packer fan, thats why!
I thought that was kind of obvious. Heck, i cried when i watched Favre's retirement press conference.
I guess if you don't care about it, you arn't as big of a fan as i am.

Well........i TRY to be civil, even with something like that from Roddy.

Like LT said....it MUST really bother him, as he has to TRY to come back to start more crap with a different name.

And yes PC, it's nice NOT to have that to sweat over in the off season. We KNOW who our QB will be, and quite frankly, i think AR is gonna be good. He's done well this year.....not great, but well. Good enough to give me real hope for the not to distant future.

Brett is too loyal for that..

Say what you will about the man, but something tells me, if he is playing next year, it will be with the Jets.. he has built ties with them already.. just as he did here.

He retired.. but forget not that he wanted to play here first upon coming back.. I don't buy for a second that Brett is on a mission today to destroy the Packers or one up Thompson.. that doesn't mean they will probably ever talk civil in the next five years.

During the divorce last year.. Brett was pissed no doubt.. but just like a divorce.. things are done on emotion.

Brett has always been a man of great character.. I can't see him wanting to play and not giving the Jets the first opportunity for them to have him on their team.. period.

IMO.. of course.

I agree, he's a grown man, not a child, I don't believe that he is on a mission to stick it to the Packers like some journalists would like to feed all the 14 year olds still watching sportscenter hour upon hours straight. For 17 years he lived in Green Bay, thats a lot of great memories in contrast to a break up. When he retires, It'll be as a Green Bay Packer.

The question as to what happens if the Jets trade him to Minnesota is still open to debate. I have read in many places that contrary to most initial thought, we would be owed those picks in the event of a trade to any NFC North team for the remainder of his contract. I have also seen the references that say the Jets can trade him without penalty this year. I lean towards the former, simply based on what I have read, but am by no means sure. Seems appropo not to know. :thumbleft:

I think the most interesting aspect of "will he or won't he" retire this year...the same one I contemplated on the day he was traded...isn't him retiring, but rather, if he announces he is retiring, how many are going to believe him this time? At a minimum, I can pretty much guarantee that David Letterman and co. will have some fresh material to work with the evening of an announcement.

I'm going to do a vikesrule on that day and bring my popcorn and just watch for once.

UPDATE---6:03 PM EDT Brett announces that these next two, three or four games could be his last... I just heard it on ESPN...
