Well, hopefully this guy will never see the field. But I agree, it doesn't make much sense. Maybe he's sharp mentally and they think he can get up to speed physically within a few weeks. This late in the season, the mental aspect is going to be very important as the learning curve will be steep and he will be expected to learn the playbook quickly.

Ryan Grant was also a 4th string nobody and he turned out ok for a season. Maybe this guy has something the rest of the world couldn't get out of him.

..Or he has suggestive pictures of Ted Thompson and is blackmailing him for a roster spot.

Any word if he attended any workouts? I'll let the coaching staff determine talent and I'm all for flying in everyone and his brother for workouts, but kind of odd that we'd just up and sign someone like this. As NSD pointed out, I'm a bit surprised there's nobody better stashed away on a practice squad somewhere. Unless this guy kept himself in playing shape the last 3 years, I'm a bit afraid a bullrush will blast this guy back about 10 feet.

It isn't like he has been sitting on the couch since 2009, he's been in training camps the last 2 seasons. Honestly though the odds of this guy seeing the field are not really all that great. My guess is as soon as Bulaga/Clifton get back into the mix this guy hits the road and a better player gets signed in his place. He's pretty much just the in case of emergency guy.

Barring an injury to Newhouse or Lang, I honestly don't see this guy seeing the field on Sunday. He's more or less an emergency body at this stage to replace Sherrod. Obviously they must have felt Campbell was too raw to activate to the 53-man roster if they felt a guy who hasn't played any significant snaps since 2008 is an upgrade.

At least Clifton is practicing this week even on a limited basis which gives me hope he'll be ready to get some playing time against the Lions. It'd be nice to see him at least get one regular season game in before the playoffs start in three weeks.

How cooi would it be to be this guy, though?

After 3+ years out of football, he comes back and he could end up with a ring.

beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
