Well, to add another bitch to the fire, Rodgers had a disappointing game today. He came into the game leading the league in yards per attempt at 9.9, but he only managed to eke out 9.5 yards per attempt today. Moreover, he only matched his career high in rushing yards at 52.

On a more serious note, I must say that this comment from Charlie Peprah strikes me as just a bit to flippant and (dare I say it?) sounds too complacent for my tastes.

"We're a pressure defense, so we're going to give up some big plays. But we feel we're going to make some, too," he said. "I wouldn't trade a perfect defense for a win, so I'll take the W and we'll clean up that stuff later."

When our unstoppable Offense was unable to grind out the clock, the D came up with a critical stop and a pick on back to back drives.

Just imagine what they would do if they were good.

Yes, the Packers only had three drives in the first half. Imagine what our offensive stats would look like if the defense could manage to force more than one three-and-out per game and actually get off the field once in a while. [boxing]

I think he might be talking about the play of the Chargers after the onside recovery. After that recovery, Capers was blitzing like his life depended on it, but we were getting gutted up and down. But, really, hard to get much pressure when outside of Clay/Woodson/Bishop we lack any credible rushing threat. Seriously, Walden is not a pass-rusher. Pickett is most definitely not. Wynn, after a pretty impressive start, has come back down to earth. And Raji, playing almost every snap, cannot be realistically expected to rush the passer as the game wears on.

Honestly Dexter, I think you might be mistaking an opportunistic D with a good D.

Our defense is extremely aggressive, and very opportunistic when the offense makes a mistake (be it wrong route run, bad ball thrown, etc.)

But it should be very evident that we are no where near being a "good" D. The lapses we are having are, sooner or later, going to cost us a game. And I worry it may be in the playoffs.

Something interesting to think about is that when it comes to playoff seedings, the Packers absolutely cannot afford to let their foot off the pedal. While at 8-0, they might seem to be virtual locks to make the playoffs, they are still only 2 games up on the Lions, which means that at the current rate, they won't be able to clinch the division until Week 15. By contrast, the 49ers at 7-1 are an incredible 5 games up in the NFC West, with 3 of their next 4 games coming against division opponents! Amazingly, the 49ers thus have a chance to clinch their division by Week 11, the week before Thanksgiving. Right now it's looking like home-field advantage in the NFC might not be settled until the final week of the season. Every game from here on out is going to be extremely important. Even one miscue could jeopardize the Packers' chances of home field throughout, and as close as the NFC is right now, could make the difference between home field advantage and a wild card berth.

While I would love to have the NFC CG game played in GB, I don't think it will hurt them to play it in SF. The warmer weather will give Rodgers and a better opportunity to put up points than they will have in a sub zero windy maybe even icy game in GB.
That said, SF may not even make it to the CG as they may loose the prior week. Like Seattle last year they could fall victim to a softer schedule and weaker division.
time will tell.
