Non, you suppose that's part of the reason you and I are such bastards sometimes to people? We are stand on our own two feet kind of guys, but we miss needing our fathers?

Could you please edit the title of this thread, Kevin? I don't hate my father. I have spent years of my life trying to re-establish a relationship with him. It is he who cut me off and wants nothing to do with me. He considers me a complete loser and reprobate not worthy of his time, and nothing I have accomplished convinces him otherwise.

There may be something to your theory, Troy. All I know is that I learned that if I couldn't even get approval from my own father, I should not rely on the approval of others. Living one's life in a vain quest for approval is crippling. I know my relationship with my father has also shaped my perspective on God. For a long time I wanted nothing to do with God. I already had a father, I often said. I didn't need another.

You can edit the title as you wish. If it does not allow, please let me know and I kick the admins ass for ya.

And when one doesn't get that respect/approval, they end up filling that hole in their life by many different means. In Troy's case, by being an asshole (it's ok, it's not your fault, T =P). We all are broken in one way or another, it's how we choose to fill the gaps that can make us better or worse.

This is actually more common than you may realize. Mrs. Z has no family at all. Her father died before she was born and we disowned her mother well over a decade ago. Her mother's an alcoholic/meth addict who took her drug addictions over her own kids.

She had a wonderful uncle. He died.

She had a good half brother. He had a nervous breakdown and no longer recognizes us.

I got a good relationship with both of my parents. Lord knows how grateful I am. What I have is rare.

Be proud of your accomplishments. You shouldn't need approval. You can't control other adults, only yourself. Seeking his approval is a lost cause and spending time on lost causes will drive you nuts.

I don't get the needing thing between parents and children. Parents are obligated to provide food and shelter until you are 18, then get the fuck out of the house and make your own life.

If you are actually lucky enough to have parents that love and nouture you - feel blessed; but if you've been coddled too much - you've been severely fucked by your parents because they didn't do their job preparing you for the ugliness of this world.

I agree with Zombie on the parental approval thing. Wasting thought and sleep on that is just craziness. Maybe 5% of the Dad's out there are Ward Cleaver - the rest are fucking up one thing or another. I always say the two biggest problems in this country are sloth and greed - well you can add people not having the courage to stand on their own two feet to the list.

Yeah I might be one emotionally calloused mofo - but God dammit I have the confidence in myself to not need anybody giving me a thumbs up. And maybe I'm a product of a dogshit father and am an anomoly - but I wanted a life and a family and went about it my way. Guess what, when I look in the mirror, I only need to see me.

I often say that the primary goal of parenthood is simply to fuck up your children as little as possible. 👻

beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
