Reading some of the falcon's forums yesterday and they were bemoaning the fact that their GM hasn't come up with many "immediate impact" players. At once I thought "Well that's not how you make a great team, you draft and develop."

That points to Ted Thompson as a great talent evaluator and Mike McCarthy as a developer of that talent. I think Mike McCarthy can get the best out of his players over the long term.

(But I also wish he was more aggressive during games.)

I'm with NSD about aggression. That was my main criticism of 🇲🇲 is sometimes, he wouldn't punch a guy when he's down.

Against the Br*n**s though (trying to cut down on my bad word usage), he went for the throat. The onside kick, the 4th and 1, both brilliant. The 38 passes vs 17 RB rushes. Loved that too. When a team like the Broncos has DB injuries, exploit it. (This isn't a run vs pass comment. I'm talking about exploiting injury situations).

And agreed that on 4th and 1 in the red zone, the odds say you go. 7 points > 3 points, but more importantly, it's a morale killer. I'm a big believer in morale. Had we failed, we put them in bad field position and give them a scare as they know we're not screwing around.

🇲🇲 is showing a mean side and frankly, I think it's sexy. 💓 🖐

I believe MM is a better coach in all aspects, game preparation, play calling, and adapting to the game as it's played. His "killer instinct" was great the end of last season and the playoffs. When he started to run with nearly 10 minutes left in the Saints game I was afraid he might backslide, but he doing better with it. He is also developing a knack for a surprise play at the right time, like his onside kicks.

He has always been a good QB coach so he can develop QBs. That goes a long way towards being successful. Add Tom Clements and their QB school and it even gets better.

Another very important key is the coaching staff now is much, much better than his first staff. This is imperitive if you are going to develop player by teaching them proper technique, discipline, motivate them, etc. Except for Slow Cum. LOL

McCarthy and Rodgers mic'd up against Denver

Watch this shit. McCarthy is a man in control. And for that matter, Aaron Rodgers is one cool cat.

Quick hits (as best as I can tell from listening to the audio):
- "Aaron listen to this lets go zoom-right outside [inaudible] let's take a shot here." Rodgers proceeds to throw perfect pass to Jordy Nelson for the TD.

-McCarthy: "Hey Dom, goin' with a surprise onside here [inaudible] and we're gonna get it."
Rodgers (on the sideline presumably a few moments later): "Surprise onside. He's really doin' it. He's really doin' it."

Also: Maybe McCarthy is reading the PH forums. He seems to be in touch with the notion that knockout punches (a.k.a. steppin' on the opponents' throats) are vital.

A quote from Donald Driver in an NFL.com article talking about this weekend's Bad Blood Matchup against ATL

"He's always talking about how we have to start fast. He said that we have to have that knockout punch," Driver said of McCarthy. "He said we haven't [thrown] the knockout punch yet. He's a big boxing fan -- he shows a couple clips of this guy, that guy -- and says we have to start knocking guys out... He's making sure he knocks out every team we play. He's bringing everything we got. He's bringing the whole kitchen sink."

Now, I'd wager that McCarthy is much the same in more ways that he's changed. BUT -- the ways in which he has changed are exciting. There's a swagger there that only bolsters the obsessive preparedness that has defined his early tenure in Green Bay. Could we all at least table the bullshit "I wish he'd get more angry at players on the sideline when they ... blah blah blah"

As fans we have always been hidden from the true workings of our head coach. He's a practice field screamer, a totally anal retentive/detail oriented organizer. And now he's got a ring, is allergic to complacency, and has instilled a heavy dose of moxie into his style.

I still think he's holding us back. LOL. I know, I know. We won the Superbowl. To me, that's more about Ted Thompson being able to stock this team with players. And Dom Capers putting it together on defense. MM's the weak link in that trio, IMHO. Yeah, he's a great QB guru. The QB school is awesome. I just think that there's something about his teams where they sometimes feel like they're stumbling over themselves. There are too many "ugly" sequences in games. Too consistently.
HOWEVER, MM can redeem himself in my eyes. We are now beginning the second quarter of the season. This is where his teams have always shit themselves. Let's see if we can get some consistent football out of these guys. If we don't have to verge on playoff elimination before just squeaking in by the skin of our teeth, I will shout MM's praises from the rooftops. Deal?
