The Lions losing to the Bears is a quadriple hit.

Winning %
Division winning %
Conference winning %
Record in common games

Right down the tiebreaker list.

The downside is that it puts the Bears 2 games back.

I agree, I'll be rooting for the bears too. I like rooting for other teams that helps the Packers cause. Keeps me interested in the games that the Packers aren't playing. And it helps the Packers (well my rooting doesn't directly help the Pack but if the team I'm rooting for wins it does. You get the pictures.)

I personally would rather the Packers win it on their own rather than rooting for a team to lose. That's a complete Vikings fan methodology there and shows lack of confidence in your team.

If that means rooting for CHI to beat DET in week 5 but then DET to beat CHI in weak 10 so be it. Having a rooting interest helps keep me interested in games when the Pack isn't playing.

da Bears aren't a threat to us. Anyone see the game last week? They won not by winning the game but by sucking less than the team they played. It's kind of like two 2nd graders getting in a fight.

"You're stupid!"

"Yeah? Well, you're stupider!"

"Yeah? Well, you're the stupidest!"

If da Bears somehow win the division this year, I'm burning my Packers underoos.

Redskins also beat the Giants which puts them ahead in head to head tie breaker (which I think is the first one)

I know the Lions losing would help the Packers currently take the lead of the NFC North (when they win) but I'm gonna have a had time rooting for the Bears to win over the Lions.... also I'd rather have the Bears at 2-3 thinking they might be out of it with two 5-0 teams in the division. Vs. them at 3-2 just beaten the 4-1 team...

49ers are the only team to have two or more game lead over the rest of their division. (in other words that division still sucks but they're getting wins)

The saints still scare me. They are one team that could match our offense point for point. Hopefully we get them in Lambeau for the playoffs (getting ahead of myself of course).

Now to the schedules of the teams currently chasing perfection

4-0 (who ever made the schedules seemed to schedule the night games perfect this week (at least as far as getting the two 4-0 teams...)

Packers @ Falcons (2-2) Sunday Night game

Bears (2-2) @ Lions Monday Night game

Now for the Perfection in finding ways to lose...

0-4

Chiefs (1-3) @ Colts (Chiefs have only beat the 0-4 Vikings so the Colts have a chance to get out of the winless streak this week)

Cardinals (1-3) @ Vikings (Cardinals are 1-3 but you could argue they could of been 4-0 but have left games get away from them... then again you could also argue they could of been 0-4 if they didn't get lucky and stop Cam Newton in his first NFL game ever.... so this is really is the game of the teams that play down to their opponents level and almost try to give the game away...)

Dolphins and Rams have their bye weeks.

Wrong. No one wins the division in week 5. What if the win sparks a 10 game winning streak, Packers lose a bunch and because the Bears beat the Lions (who always took a nose dive) the Bears get the division while the Packers miss out?

Doesn't make sense to be rooting for any team other than the Packers right now. If they do their job, the rest doesn't matter. And I want the Packers to go in without any assmunch saying 'ooh they snuck in.ooooh'.

You're going to find yourself rooting for the Bears, then the Vikings, then the Lions etc ... waste of time. Only time that theory works is towards the end of the season when playoff spots are actually up for grabs. Week 5 is not the time, it is not the time.

As far as I am concerned, your argument is just flat-out wrong. People make the same argument all the time in baseball: "Oh, I don't watch the games in April and May because they just don't matter." That's exactly the attitude that can get a team in trouble. Sure, a team might not officially punch its ticket to the playoffs in the first four weeks of the season, but the way a team performs early the season -- and the events around the league, such as the way rivals perform -- sets up how important the games later in the season will be. Sure, there is a possibility that the 0-4 Vikings could make the playoffs, but the probability is minuscule. The fact that they have started out so poorly means that in the last quarter of the season, the Packers won't have to worry so much about season records, tiebreakers, and other permutations. The Lions' 4-0 start, by contrast, means that, barring a spectacular collapse on the part of either team, the race is going to be taut all season. It's likely that both season record and tiebreakers are going to be pivotal. Especially considering the fact that the Packers do not play the Lions until Thanksgiving, all divisional games at this point of the season are important. The Packers won't have a chance to notch the head-to-head advantage, so they will have to gain whatever advantage they can through beating divisional opponents and hopefully having the other teams in the division beat the crap out of each other.

So, yes, I will root for the opponents of other teams in the division, as well as for the underdogs in the division, because every time a divisional team gets defeated, the Packers' chances of making the playoffs improve.

What's the old saying? "My favorite two teams are the Packers and whoever is playing the Vikings this week"? Well, this season, it's the Packers and whoever the Lions are playing this week.
