James Jones played just 19 snaps in Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints, catching the only pass that was thrown his way for a 1-yard gain. The 'jumbo' package is primarily a running formation containing WR, RB and 3TE or WR, FB, RB and 2TE. James Jones feels "maybe that was a game-time decision to put me in and give me some playing time."

James Jones isn't particularly upset with only having one ball thrown his way because he understands “Aaron’s got his hands full." and continued on to say "We’ve got a lot of weapons. It’d be stupid for me to come up to Aaron and tell him I’m open. Every receiver’s going to say they’re open on every play even when they’re covered. I don’t bother Aaron. Aaron throws to the open guy. He’s been good throwing to the open guy. Aaron doesn’t tell me to sub into the game. So if I’m not in the game, he can’t throw it to me on the sideline.”

According to James Jones, it sounds more like he simply wants to be on the field more often. "Yeah, I don’t care about (t)he ball at all, but I truly want to be in the game plan, everybody plays this game because they want to be playing. I’m not selfish. I understand we have a lot of weapons. I’m not saying I want the ball every play. But I think I deserve to be on the field more than I was."

James Jones also added "At the end of the day, we won the ballgame, that’s the main focus. Do I want to be more involved? No doubt. Who wouldn’t? But it is what it is, it bothered me a little bit because I want to be involved. I’m a competitor. I want to be involved; I want to be able to help my team win. But at the end of the day, we’ve got a lot of weapons, the ball just didn’t come my way. Hopefully that changes. That’s all I can say. Practice hard and hopefully it changes."

When asked if the team had chosen a number 3 WR; James Jones responded with "Yeah, you’ve seen the film. You know who’s No. 3. Me and Cobb are slash 4 and 5."

As of now, James Jones does not regret signing the 3 year contract for $9.6 million this past August, however this may change if he continues to get less than two dozen snaps a game.

He is being flamed on some other sites for his comments, but I think if he had just answered "No comment" to the questions it would have looked worse. I think he explained himself well, isn't blaming anyone. I feel spoiled as a fan that this media attention is coming from a battle for the 4th/5th receivers on the team.

The question posed is a lose.. lose proposition for a player.

Are you happy with not getting the opportunities?

If you answer it with no comment.... the speculation will run wild.. people and the media will fill in their own blanks.

If you answer it as you understand and are okay with it.. you will be painted someone that lacks the desire or work ethic. See Chad Johnson this week.. which is utter bullshit by the way.. and I am not a CJ fan.

And if you show your competitive side.. you are unhappy and possibly a distraction or complainer.

In any of the choices.. your going to get forked over to some degree.

I have no issue with his direction.. he was respectful yet honest that he wants more reps. He wasn't disrespectful or combustive.. he was direct that I want to see more action.. I am a player that wants to play.

Truthfully.. all of them sans Jennings play second fiddle to Finley.. but that is a different thread.

I hated to see Jones go there at all, but as Pack93z said, it is a tricky question for a player to answer. I agree that the criticism of Chad Johnson is silly, but it certainly shows what can happen if a player who didn't get the ball much acts like he's okay with it. What the two situations have in common is that both teams won and their passing offenses ran like well-oiled machines, and now the emphasis is on the one receiver who did not catch as many passes as expected.

By the way, Aaron Rodgers,as usual, had the perfect thing to say about the whole thing. Zero has already made it the subject of a thread, but it deserves to be here as well. This is from the Green Bay Press Gazette:

“I just hope that you all, as media personalities, don’t run to whoever is the low man on the catch totem pole every week because that’s going to get a little bit ridiculous,” Rodgers said. “It is Week 1. It’s a long season, and I’m going to throw it to the open guy. So I just hope you guys don’t do that. You probably will, but that’s a single plea from me.”

You guys assured me that not wanting to re-sign Jones was stupid, that he'd get his targets, regardless of having too many guys who are on a nr 1, 2, 3 receiver skill level and that there won't be a locker room problem, so I asume this'll all be over by week 2.

Anyways, I am smart and do have a clue so I do know who this "Jorde" is that you keep referring to. I really don't believe the Packers have much depth chart numbers other than Greg Jennings is number one. I think 2 - 5 are fluid and predicated on the match ups available.

If I were to set the depth chart, I'd probably go as follows
• Greg Jennings
 • Jordy Nelson
 • Donald Driver
 • James Jones
 • Randall Cobb (I'd use him on KR and PR and that's why he's lower)
• You should click THIS  and read what Aaron Rodgers has said about the WR that's on the low catch totem pole. Sorry, I won't paste the comment here because I created a thread about it for a reason.
