Give it up for the line indeed, including TJ Lang.

Besides the fact he had two false starts, he has some power to him. Perhaps Best thing about him though: when Lang gets beat, he is still able to recover somewhat and buy you a bit of time. I do not think I could say the same about Colledge.

The good is the Packers won the game. The bad is the defense was awful. This felt like Arizona again. The great is GB doesn't play New Orleans until maybe in the postseason.

I think the defense could use a few more tackling drills. I'm guessing this is going to be a common theme the first month because of the new CBA.

I don't think the CBA caused the Packers to miss tackles, lol. 🙂 Unless their wallets are too heavy, in that case, why they playing with their wallets in their pockets???

Tackling was awful, I don't think the defense was. The Saints are kind of a good offense. The offense in the 3rd did them no favors with the short drives and three an out. They are athletes, but still human after all.

The Saints were bad too. The Zombie Slayer is right. October is when it's time to worry.

It was the first game of the season with a severely shortened pre-season.

How many times was it mentioned during the game that the packers players hadn't got together to practice unlike New Orleans???

It was mentioned at the beginning of this thread and the commentators overplayed it a tad too much.

My overall ipmpression was we did just enough to win against an excellent team who will definately be in the playoffs with us.

We gave up a lot of yards but so did they.

I reckon Saints fans will be trying to disect their teams poor defensive performance as well. So it's swings and roundabouts.

As has been said if we are still giving up massive amounts on defense in October then it will be time to worry.

Re: Tackling.

It looked to me as if all the D did in the offseason was watch Woodson tape and think "Oh, well...if you knock the ball out you get a fumble and don't need to tackle. I can do that!" Fucking bush-league.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

They had four preseason games to tackle, actually they combined probably played one full game, but it's tackling. You can either do it, or you have to learn to do it. The fundamentals of it stay the same.

Unfortunately, even with the old CBA rules, tackling was awful. Will this new 'no tackle' rule or what not make it worse? I'm not sure how much worse it could get for professionals being paid millions.

The offensive line absolutely dominated. It was beautiful.

Can you imagine what this team would look like with its current receiving corps coupled with a running game defensive coordinators actually had to scheme against?[aiee]

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
