Basically the practice squad players are FAs that can sign onto any team's 53 man roster.

The differences between them and FAs are

1) They get to practice and be coached up
2) They're getting paid a little bit
3) They can't sign unto other teams practice squads if they're current signed on a practice squad

Temper the rejoicing, folks. Players on the practice squad are free agents and can be signed by any team at any time -- without compensation to the Packers. Purely as a courtesy, players sometimes give their teams a chance to match any offers they receive, but they are under no obligation to do so. Any or all of those players could be gone before the weekend's out.

The only player I am worried about is Graham Harrell. I could definitely see another team making him an offer this season. I don't want to lose him the year before Matt Flynn is probably going to leave. If another team were to make overtures for Harrell, Ted Thompson would probably make an effort to sign him to the 53-man roster, but Harrell would have to notify him of the development first. As I said before, no player is required to notify their current team about offers they receive.

Why should we temper the rejoicing? We wanted to keep more of our guys and 31 other teams took a pass on them (for now). That's something to be happy about, and as fans we can and will rejoice in things that we think are good things happening to our team.

Last year they took a ton of the Packers cut players, this year they didn't... and it sounded like the Patriots wanted to keep a couple of guys on the practice squad and couldn't because they were claimed by division rivals. So I'm happy our guys that we wanted aren't yet on another team.

Also getting both west and Gurley back ups the chances one of them makes it to the end of the season with the Packers as now two times someone has to come looking for Packers WRs... and they already took one pass on them...

The difference between the glass is "half full" and "half empty" guys. They both make it interesting.

So, umm, arguing over semantics and misquoting someone while aiming to start an argument ... typically results in confusion.

Some scenarios I've seen with the Packers.
- Packers hear that a team is interested in one of their practice squad players, so they cut a guy and bring said player onto their active 53 before the other team has a chance.
- Team approaches Packers practice squad player, agent notifies Packers to see if they will active said player.
- Team signs player off Packers practice squad without notifying the Packers until after the fact.

Therefore, in my experience and understanding of what has happened in the past, if a team WANTS a Packers practice squad player, all they need to do is sign'em to their active 53 and he's gone.

On a site note, I deal daily with a 10 year old girl who's overly technical and I come here and get to deal with it to. How. Flippin. AWESOME!

Despite the fact that teams can sign players off the practice squad, history shows that it rarely happens. Its not like all of these guys are going to be snatched up in a few weeks, sure a few could potentially be gone by the end of the season, but the fact is; its good that they managed to sign as many of these guys as they did.

I'm just not able to share the enthusiasm about players being on the practice squad. That is all.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
