Preface.. I think last night cemented my feeling that the Packers would be in just as good of hands in Harrell as in Flynn at this point, IMO, Harrell has closed the gap between the two and with Flynn in a walk year, you explore trades and move him for value if you can. With roster spots at a premium.. I think it might not be a bad idea to carry only two.
QB Rodgers, Harrell (Flynn if he can't be moved for some decent value)
RB Grant, Starks, Green (Saine I think hits the practice squad) Nance showed he can pick up a blitz last night but IMO looks very stiff running the ball.
FB Kuhn is a lock.. Johnson I believe sticks for short yardage situations.
TE Finley, Quarless, Crabtree and Williams. I think the Packers have a better shot at sneaking Taylor through to the PS if desired than Williams.
WR Jennings, Jones, Nelson, Driver, Cobb. The wildcard here is will Cobb be healthy enough to start the season? If they feel not.. keep and extra.. if so.. bank that you get one or two of the three bubble recievers (IMO) West,Gurley,Taylor. Gurley probably gets the nod it they keep 6.
OL Here is where it gets sticky for me.. you have the locks.. Clifton, Lang, Wells, Sitton, Bulaga, Sherrod, Newhouse. Then I think you could throw a blanket over the rest relatively speaking. So I think they are set at Tackle depth, so I keep 2 more guards and a center to allow a bit more time to evaluate and then par it down in a couple weeks. I keep McDonald (whom I think might have been hurt the worst with the lockout of the holdovers) and then Schlauderaff and Dominguez.
DE Pretty straight forward here for me.. Pickett, Neal, Wilson, Wynn and Guy.I think Donaldson might be a PS candidate.
NT Raji and Green (they worked Green hard to get back into shape). Ross played well enough to warrant a look at the PS as well.
LB Matthews, Bishop, Hawk, Walden, DJ Williams, Zombo, So'oto, Lattimore, Francois.. Here if Zombo is sent to the IR it could open up a spot elsewhere. Francois might loose a spot to a Jackson whom flashed.. but I doubt it, he flashed late.
CB Woodson, Williams, Shields, Bush, Lee. Sorry I don't see Gordy nor Ross being ready to maintain a spot. Somehow I think House heads to the IR.. he is dinged up and way behind. Let him sit a year, develop and give it a go next season.
S Collins, Peprah, Burnett.. Bush can double here. Levine, Jennings, Bratton one or maybe even two of them should be available to the PS for added protection. Bratton flashed enough late to maybe warrant consideration.. big physical safety that could bring the wood on special teams. Levine disappointed me.. looks the part just hasn't played it IMO. Jennings needs a year in the weight room and add some bulk, a year on the PS would do that.
I hate chewing up a spot on the long snapper.. but it is an evil that must be done in today's game.
So there it is.. shred it, but if you do, bring it in why a am full of snot bubbles. Personally.. I can hit 50 players pretty easy.. it is those last 3 that could go so many ways.. but I did my best to keep this years needs in mind as well as the future.
PS.. Ted will pick up a castoff or two and blow most of this exercise up.. but it was interesting to put the roster together anyway and how I would do it with the players available today. With the limited information I had this season.. didn't even hit a camp. 😞
