I really like Donald Driver. He seems to know his 'role' so to speak. Even if that role is limited.

Ageless Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver isn’t going anywhere, even though the roster is loaded with younger talent.

Driver, 36, still looks good, feels good, is in tip-top shape and has no plans to relinquish his starting job.

“I think he’s had a good camp, I really do,” said Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday.

“It’s typical Donald. He’s going to run his routes well, he’s going to catch the ball and he’s going to make some plays when he gets in game situations.”

Driver has thrived on silencing his doubters, and he is hoping this year is no different.

“It’s been like that all my life,” Driver said. “As a child growing up, people tell me I can’t do this, I can’t do that. I prove people wrong.”

His string of six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons ended last year when he caught 51 passes for 565 yards. Some believe it’s a sign his career is nearing an end. To Driver, that kind of talk will only serve as motivation.

“It’s been the talk since I got here in ’99 and the talk continues in 2011,” Driver said. “I don’t think it’s going to ever change.”

Driver is realistic enough to know he can’t play forever. He is humble enough to accept a smaller role in the offense, if asked. He even would settle for a nonstarting position if that’s what the Packers wanted.

“If it got to that point where they made a decision to say, ‘Hey Donald, we’re not going to start you,’ I’m OK with it,” Driver said. “It’s not going to be the first time I haven’t started a game.”

But that time hasn’t arrived, according to Driver. He hasn’t lost a step or hit the proverbial wall.

“I said I want to play until I’m 40,” Driver said. “Will that day come? I hope. If not, I’m willing to know when it’s over, it’s over. And right now for me it’s not over. It’s been a proven fact I’m still playing at a high level. I’m competing at a high level.”

Driver suffered a high ankle sprain in the Super Bowl and missed the second half of the championship game. He normally works out fiendishly in the offseason but was forced to rest.

IMO, Jordy Nelson is the biggest threat to unseat DD for a starting role.

I am interested to see how Jordy Nelson would handle the #2 wr position. He had a big game in the Super Bowl, but its not like the Steelers had a game plan to stop Nelson. Many times Jordy was in zone coverage and had a mismatch covering him.

This season, Nelson may see some ddl teams, some safeties coming over the top and taking shots at him. Interested to see how he handles that.

I think DD has a big year in him. I think he can reach 60 catches for 800-900 yards and keep his starting role over Nelson.

I figure Jennings and Finley will put up 1000 yard seasons. I think the Packer Offense will try to get Jordy Nelson in single coverage as often as possible and use him to stretch the defense. DD will be a possession wr, and remain a starter.

So if you meet me Have some courtesy, Have some sympathy, and some taste

I like us some Jordy Nelson, but I think James Jones is more of a threat to defenses than Jordy. I think James Jones will take snaps from Donald Driver more so than Jordy Nelson. And Donald Driver sounds like he'd be okay with that.

I really hope this is the biggest argument we as fans get into this year.

Packers now have 4 proven, veteran WR's + 1 rookie who has impressed, 1 premiere Te + a couple more who would probably start on over half of the other teams in the NFL.

Hopefully the "we don't care who makes the play" attitude continues this year.

If the hardest thing MM and AR have to do this year is figure out how to get everyone touches, then it should be an exciting, fun year.

DD showed GJ,JJ, and JN how to play the receiver position, what it means to be a team player, if after this year, it is time the torch be passed, IMHO it will be in good hands.

I would still take Jones over Nelson in a pinch, but they are both very good, and either one of them would be a legitimate #2, so I I'm just happy to have them on my team.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Did Savion Williams run into a goalpost or something?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : also, no bueno when a guy starts getting concussions right off the bat in his career
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Concussion is worse. Banks probably vet off day via back booboo claim
Mucky Tundra (25-Jul) : @AndyHermanNFL Jordy Nelson out at camp today. No word if he’s in play for one of the two open roster spots ; )
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Is that better or worse than Banks bad back?
Zero2Cool (25-Jul) : Savion concussion ... not good.
packerfanoutwest (24-Jul) : Aaron Rodgers’s first pass of first team period was picked off
Mucky Tundra (24-Jul) : tbh I didn't hear of his passing
