http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2011/02/packers-wr-donald-driver-plans-to-play-until-hes-40/1?csp=34

Don't expect Packers WR Donald Driver to join John Elway, Jerome Bettis and Michael Strahan by riding off into the Super Bowl sunset.

Driver, 36, expects to be back for is 13th season in 2011.

"I don't know why people have said I was going to retire," Driver said in an interview with ESPN Radio in Chicago.

"My goal has always been that I was going to play until I'm 40. So I'm still going to play. I feel good. I feel like I haven't lost anything."

Driver, who is signed through 2012, failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards (he finished with 565) in 2010 for the first time since 2003. He also missed the second half of Super Bowl XLV with ankle and knee injuries.

However his return could be important if Packers WR James Jones is lost to free agency.

Once again, it pays to listen to Peter King, and then predict the opposite of what he says. King had commented that when he saw Driver after the Super Bowl he had a feeling that Driver was going to retire.

The injuries this year could be a sign of age--but then maybe luck just caught up to him after several seasons of good health. I'd love to see Driver have an injury-free season in 2011.

Driver has said this for a while. When he signed his last contract, he said his goal was to play until he hits 40.

The injury was a sign he plays a violent sport. Everybody gets hurt. When a older player gets hurt, everyone says it is a sign of age.

He was slowed by a thigh bruise that turned into a tear because he over worked it. One injury until his ankle got rolled up on in the super bowl.

If he was 28, nobody would think twice.

Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Even if Donald is older and slower he still knows how to play the game. He knows how to catch the ball. He knows how to get the defender out of position. He is an excellent possession receiver. If he only catches 4 balls in a game and they are all 3rd down receptions that move the chains he is well worth what they are paying him.

This.

And also, he knows how to fight for the first down market without losing the football. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is. First downs drive opposing Ds nuts.

I just don't want to see him stick around longer than the Packers will hold onto him. That's my concern.

Yes sir. When King reiterated his Steelers 33, Packers 26 (or whatever) I said that pretty much sealed it, Packers will win, lol.

LOL I'm sure they would pick him up if he would accept the offer. However, that wasn't at all what I had in mind. I just don't want to see him fade, only to be traded around. He should end his career as a Packer without having any other teams on his resume, and be able to say that his last season was a successful one where he could still be our #2. Jerry Rice and Antonio Freeman come to mind.

I know but you know how the Vikings are?

Vikings front office - what are we going to do about our player personnel?

Other guy in Vikings front office - well, let's just wait to see whose career is winding down from the Packers.

(that's how they make all their decisions).
