Finley: Pack can score 'every time' they get ball

The depth chart says Jermichael Finley is a tight end. His speed and ability to avoid tackles after the catch make him look more like a really big wide receiver.

Finley talks like a prototypical wide receiver, too.

Entering his fourth season for the Green Bay Packers, Finley has cultivated a reputation for making bold statements. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has suggested that anything Finley says should come with some sort of disclaimer, warning people not to take it too seriously.

Finley's most recent proclamation came this week, when asked how many points the Packers should score per game this season.

"Put it like this: We should score every time we get the ball," Finley said. "So you add that up."

Just Jermichael being Jermichael.

"I think we've got the deadliest offense in the league," Finley said. "We don't get that much pub or whatnot, but at the same time we're on paper right now. We've still got to go on the field and do the work."

Yes, Finley might be prone to bragging, but his biggest goal this season is a relatively humble one. Coming off a season-ending injury to his right knee, Finley simply wants to stay healthy for a full season.

"I need 16 games, man," Finley said. "If I get 16 games, I think I can do some damage to a stat sheet. I guarantee you that."

Finley's knee seems fine in training camp so far, although he did sit out Wednesday night because of what Packers coach Mike McCarthy called a "glute contusion." It wasn't immediately clear if he would miss the Packers' preseason opener at Cleveland on Saturday.

"I have no reason to believe it's serious," McCarthy said.

I'm surprised the writer didn't change the title to something like "Finley guarantees Pack will score every time and put up over 1000 points for the season".

I really think the media wants to make Finley a trash talker, I have yet to read anything that makes him look bad. The guy is proud of his team and his own ability, nothing wrong with that. I guess we will see what happens with a loss(not gonna happen) and he only gets targeted 2-3 times(also not gonna happen) if his mouth really opens up.

Nothing he says is all that bad...but he has an inordinate number of boastful comments relative to anyone else on the team. Maybe it's just because the media knows he'll talk so they focus on and bait him, or he really is that boastful.

Either way, the sum of all of his comments is wearing thin on me, it feels like he's talking himself up in case he get hurt, so he still is noticed for his looming contract. Just shut up, prove you can be a good lockeroom guy, and last 16 games for a change.

I don't mind the comments he made in this interview. I think every player should expect to score every time they get the ball. Maybe this mindset will help avoid all of those games where we lost by less than 2 points. I also agree that his first goal should be staying healthy this season. A star TE is of no use on the bench.

Confidence and to be honest with the talent on this roster.. we are a threat to score every time we possess the ball.

This kind of talk bothers me little.

I am glad he is focused on staying healthy and for all the talk about him and his contract.. he has said all the right things in the past couple of days. Take it as it comes.

I just don't see the value in talking about other teams and their players in anything but a humble approach.. little to nothing to gain from it. Here, just bubbling confidence in "this" team.

Thing with Finley, I think he is a good person by nature, just yaps a ton.. and sometimes his viewpoint or intended meaning isn't clear.

The VY comment was just talking down the hype surrounding the team, but by throwing in the "backup" it altered the interpretation of some of the audience.

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”

dfosterf (14-Jun) : TWO magnificent strikes for touchdowns. Lose the pennstate semigeezer non nfl backup
dfosterf (14-Jun) : There was minicamp Thursday. My man Taylor Engersma threw
dfosterf (11-Jun) : There will be a mini camp practice Thursday.
Zero2Cool (11-Jun) : He's been sporting a ring for a while now. It's probably Madonna.
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : We only do the tea before whoopee, it relaxes me.

Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : How's the ayahuasca tea he makes, Martha?
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : Turns out he like older women
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : I wasn't supposed to say anything, but yes the word is out and we are happy 😂😂😂
Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : I might be late on this but Aaron Rodgers is now married
Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : Well he can always ask his brother for pointers
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : Bo Melton taking some reps at CB as well as WR
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : key transactions coming today at 3pm that will consume more cap in 2025
Zero2Cool (9-Jun) : Jaire played in just 34 of a possible 68 games since the start of the 2021 season
