IMO, this is the beginning to frame a market for one or the other of these QB's.. and I think it wise to do so. Whether it comes this season or next, I anticipate one of these two being dealt for some return.. value to be determined.

Flynn is on his last year of the deal, so that might be a bit tricky to hold him and then deal him.. and I don't know that he would fetch a return that would offset his value to the Packers this season.. that said.. I do believe this to be a tool used by MM.

Always room on rosters for guys that can play the QB position and MM and staff can develop as evident. Found it interesting.

Packers backup quarterbacks make impressions

Green Bay - As the last of 13 "street" free agents signed by the Green Bay Packers in the 2010 off-season, quarterback Graham Harrell figured to be little more than fodder for training camp.

Fifteen months later, his head coach envisions him becoming a No. 2 one day.

"I think so," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's headed that way. Absolutely."

Harrell, 26, will get another chance to present his case Saturday night when the Packers play an exhibition opener in Cleveland.

"He lost all spring, but he's an instinctive guy now," said McCarthy. "You could see how productive he was in college. We loved him last year. That's why we moved him up there at the end. We were scared to lose him."

After a prolific career at Texas Tech, Harrell was unable to land a free-agent contract and spent 2009 in the Canadian Football League on Saskatchewan's injury list. Last year, he failed to convince McCarthy to keep three quarterbacks, was cut and signed to the practice squad. On Dec. 18, he was promoted to the active roster.

"Very natural in the 'gun' (shotgun formation)," said McCarthy. "Very instinctive. He's never played under center, but Graham's really improved.

"He's gotten stronger. He's put on some weight. Hard worker in the weight room."

Offensive coordinator Joe Philbin finds himself frequently telling quarterbacks coach Tom Clements that Harrell throws an eminently catchable ball.

"Does he have a cannon? I don't know, but guys catch his passes," said Philbin. "Decent accuracy. He's made some nice progress. Kind of knows how to play the position."

Both McCarthy and Philbin spoke highly of Matt Flynn's performance in the first 10 days.

"Matt just keeps getting better," McCarthy said. "I hate to say it again, but I think he's throwing with a little more velocity than he did last year.

"He's had a couple out-breaking routes from the far hash where he had to throw it over the top of people. I don't think he makes those throws two years ago."

McCarthy likes spending time with the quarterbacks during the day.

"It may be the best quarterback room I've seen in all my years in the league," said McCarthy, a veteran of 19 National Football League seasons. "As far as three guys getting along, working together, pushing each other, being on the same page. Because Graham's really picked it up. Being here for the full season last year really helped him."

I think we could see a market for Matt Flynn if/when a starting QB gets injured early in the season. Maybe the Packers get a 3rd or 4th for him?

We loved him last year. That's why we moved him up there at the end.

And here I was thinking they moved him up because Rodgers got another concussion and wouldn't be playing against the Patriots... funny how they didn't move him up until then and it wasn't the reason for the move... (or so say McCarthy)...

flynn proved himself against new england, he is the only experience we got , until someone comes across on the waiver wire you have to keep him as the best backup available !!

dfosterf (26-Jun) : I think it would be great to have someone like Tom Grossi or Andy Herman on the Board of Directors so he/they could inform us
dfosterf (26-Jun) : Fair enough, WPR. Thing is, I have been a long time advocate to at least have some inkling of the dynamics within the board.
wpr (26-Jun) : 1st world owners/stockholders problems dfosterf.
Martha Careful (25-Jun) : I would have otherwise admirably served
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Also, no more provision for a write-in candidate, so Martha is off the table at least for this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy is on my ballot subject to me penciling him in as a no.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : I thought it used to be we voted for the whatever they called the 45, and then they voted for the seven, and then they voted for Mark Murphy
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
Zero2Cool (25-Jun) : Maybe wicked wind chill made it worse?
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”

Mucky Tundra (20-Jun) : GB-Minnesota 2004 Wild Card game popped up on my YouTube page....UGH
beast (20-Jun) : Hmm 🤔 re-signing Walker before Tom? Sounds highly questionable to me.
Mucky Tundra (19-Jun) : One person on Twitter=cannon law
Zero2Cool (19-Jun) : Well, to ONE person on Tweeter
Zero2Cool (19-Jun) : According to Tweeter
Zero2Cool (19-Jun) : Packers are working on extension for LT Walker they hope to have done before camp

dfosterf (18-Jun) : Beats the hell out of a Vikings signing
Zero2Cool (18-Jun) : Baltimore Ravens now have signed former Packers CB Jaire Alexander.
dfosterf (14-Jun) : TWO magnificent strikes for touchdowns. Lose the pennstate semigeezer non nfl backup
dfosterf (14-Jun) : There was minicamp Thursday. My man Taylor Engersma threw
dfosterf (11-Jun) : There will be a mini camp practice Thursday.
Zero2Cool (11-Jun) : He's been sporting a ring for a while now. It's probably Madonna.
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : We only do the tea before whoopee, it relaxes me.

Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : How's the ayahuasca tea he makes, Martha?
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : Turns out he like older women
Martha Careful (10-Jun) : I wasn't supposed to say anything, but yes the word is out and we are happy 😂😂😂

Mucky Tundra (10-Jun) : Well he can always ask his brother for pointers
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : Bo Melton taking some reps at CB as well as WR
Zero2Cool (10-Jun) : key transactions coming today at 3pm that will consume more cap in 2025
