I really doubt TJ Lang is going anywhere. For most of last season he was basically the back up at every line position besides C (even some defensive line). He's pretty much earned his spot whether he is a starter or not.

I can see this scenario playing out if Lang plays poorly. Honestly, he should be ahead of Sherrod right now. The fact that Sherrod is getting the first team reps is not a good sign in my opinion. The Packers could also keep nine guys, which would decrease his odds.

Do I think he'll make it?

I honestly believe it's too soon to say one way or another, but it’s not long-shot. The fact that it garnered at least one response kind of fits in with the theme of the thread. Letting go of Lang would surprise some and I think he's 50-50 right now.

Tim Masthay, after the last pre-season game with no other punter on the team.

Ted Thompson re-signs Derrick Frost, currently available as a free agent after being cut by the California Redwoods of the UFL... [palm]

I think it would be more in the premise of the thread to use a realistic player like Crabtree or Howard Green. Lang isn't a realistic cut just because you put him at 50/50 lol.

Lang has been over-rated by the fans, so far.

I want production.

Still glad we let Colledge go, but we need a great replacement. I like our chances on that.

Driver goes nowhere until he decides it's time.

Reduced roll, if Cobb is as good as I/we think.

I vote, "No surprises"

We are pretty thick, talent-wise, at least on paper, and GBP paper is better than most, imo, because we also bring a pretty good version of "team" mentality to the table, historically.

I really want to say Chad Clifton, but reasonability factors in.

So I'm going to say Brad Jones.

Still your response proves my point. If he gets cut, it's going to surprise some people, and I'm guessing you're among them. I'm underwhelmed by Lang. He is living off of his 09 success, which was propped up because of the poor play of Allen Barbre that year.

Lang benefited from a lack of depth and injuries. They had no other choice than to put him in that position. If they were high on him, they didn't have to draft Derek Sherrod. I think they did like him, but he took a step back last year. This is undeniable in my opinion, though I do think they finally got it right by letting him focus on guard.

Don't sleep on Dominquez for the record. I think he'll make the roster. I agree EDS is a stretch, but let's say the Packers keep nine OL. That leaves the final spot down to Lang and Schlauderaff, who was a draft pick. Would Thompson try to get Schlaunderaff on the practice squad? Probably, but let's see it play out first.

Porky nailed my thoughts on Lang.. personally.. it is way to early to say on anyone.. just it could be a way for Lang to not make the roster. He has been here.. it is time to produce.. even though I think he is very talented I could see a way that he doesn't make it. Not probable but I think a Howard Green has a better chance of sticking than Lang.

Now onto Grant.. I think he is almost a lock, but his salary and absence last season could be tempting if others really step up. Now I think realistically, that Grant and Starks split the majority of the carries this season.. but if the Packers feel they have 3 good other options, that cap money may be tempting to re-up other core players.. or more of them.

Just thinking outside the box to foster discussion.. as like other threads of its ilk, it is too early to give anything other than theory to generate thought. Thought that was the point of these type of thread in general.. since we haven't seen jack on the field yet.

All reports I've seen have Lang playing at a high level. I have no idea why anyone is saying he might not make the team.

Zero2Cool (36m) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (36m) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (51m) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (53m) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (54m) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (54m) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (55m) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (58m) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (59m) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (59m) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (1h) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (1h) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (1h) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (1h) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (1h) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (1h) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (1h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (1h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (1h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (1h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (1h) : Packers will get in
beast (1h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (1h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (1h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (3h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (4h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (4h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (4h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (5h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (14h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (14h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (15h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (18h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (18h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
beast (21-Dec) : So far the college playoffs have sucked... One team absolutely dominates the other
beast (21-Dec) : Well even if you weren't positive towards a guy, you wouldn't nessarily want to tell the media that (if they don't know about it)
Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating
Zero2Cool (20-Dec) : There is a rule that if your name starts with 'b' you lose 15 points. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them!
wpr (20-Dec) : and then there is Beast. Running away with it all.
