We might see what kind of depth the Lions have.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/29444/another-ominous-sign-for-nick-fairley

Oh, boy.

You've probably seen the news: Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley met with renowned foot specialist Dr. Richard Anderson on Wednesday morning. Fairley, of course, hasn't practiced since suffering an unspecified injury during a practice Monday.

We have no idea about the condition of Fairley's foot, but players typically don't visit Anderson for minor ailments. Among other things, he is an expert at treating stress fractures and Lisfranc sprains.

If you're a Lions fan, you're hoping Anderson tells Fairley that he has neither injury. If you're also a realist, well ...

Here's what Lions coach Jim Schwartz had this to say after the team's morning practice:

"After [Fairley] left the field on Monday, we did some additional tests. We had some concerns about his foot. He was being seen late during practice, so we haven't heard [anything]. As soon as we hear his opinion and course of action, we'll let you guys know."

Check back for more information ... if you can bear it.

"Another ominous sign for Nick Fairley" ... and for the Detroit Lions. This is good for the Vikes, as bad as it sounds. The Lions always give the Vikings fits, we don't need them to be getting any better.

The latest on Fairley is that he had foot surgery and will miss about 3-4 weeks. No disaster.

More bad luck for the Lions early..

UPDATE 11:52 a.m.: Lions coach Jim Schwartz has revealed that LeShoure tore his Achilles' tendon Monday and is done for the year. It's the second major injury for a high-profile rookie in recent days; Giants first-round CB Prince Amukamara broke his foot over the weekend.

By Rick Osentoski, AP

Detroit will likely have to consider bringing in another back; former Lion RB Kevin Smith remains available and is now two years removed from major knee surgery.

Detroit was already without first-round DT Nick Fairley, who had foot surgery last week.

***

On the dawn of a season full of expectation, the Detroit Lions received a temporary buzzkill Monday morning when rookie RB Mikel Leshoure was carted off the practice field. Trainers were working on his ankle, foot and calf.

Leshoure, a second-round pick out of Illinois, is expected to be the hammering complement to fleet Jahvid Best in the Detroit backfield.

Leshoure rushed for 1,697 yards and 17 TDs in 2010 for the Illini and didn't fumble once.

I still say that McNabb regresses and the Vikings go 6-10, with the Lions giving them a run for their money for 3rd in the division.
