I would like to keep Havner and Swain. We do have alot of depth at TE but I think Havner should be competitive. Swain has some experience and I think we will need some additional depth at WR with DD getting a bit older and our desire to spread out the field on offense.

Yeah I don't like this article.

I'm thinking one should be able to name more than 5 players that will be on the bubble... at least when counting the easy give me like Havner (who was cut last year), Nance (who didn't see the field much and they added Green and got Grant back) and Swain (usually the 5th WR on all teams will be on the bubble)...

I honestly have no clue how Quarless made this list. Yes he dropped a lot of passes (as did all the WRs) but with Finley down Quarless was the #1 TE. But now he's "Guaranteed to be on the Roster Bubble" because of Finley, Williams and Crabtree? And to quote the article, when talking about Quarless it said

He is a good enough player, but I would take fellow tight end Tom Crabtree over him. Crabtree seems to be a more consistent pass catcher, and he is extremely valuable in the run game as a blocker.

In 20 games last year Crabtree caught 6 passes for 69 yards. Quarless had 5 catches for 62 yards in one game. Crabtree is more like a inline FB than a TE and for those that didn't notice Quarless can block as well. On top of that Quarless can stretch the field deep distracting a Safety and opening up under routes for the WRs which Crabtree can't... I don't see how Finley, Quarless and Williams aren't the top 3 TEs. And my guess is they're going to keep 4 again...

Also I can understand picking CB Lee but why him over CB Underwood? ... Lee played in the Super Bowl on defense after Woodson and Shileds went down. Underwood to me knowledge didn't and he keeps getting into legal trouble.

People forget that Quarless could have been one of the heroes of the Super Bowl. On the play before the second Jennings touchdown, Quarless was completely uncovered in the endzone, jumping up and down, waving his arms, screaming at Rodgers to throw the ball his way. Unfortunately, Rodgers was intent on forcing it to a well-covered Crabtree, which resulted in an incompletion.

Now would Quarless have completed the pass dropped directly in his bread basket? That is another question entirely.

There's no way Havner makes the team, he got cut last year and will still be the 5th most talented TE on the roster. Although Lee hasn't shown much, without the added competition he should still be able to get one of the last roster spots on defense. I can't wait to see whos going to be this years surprise Undrafted FA that breaks through, we've been spoiled in the past.

I'm thinking that Underwood and Gordy are gone... But I think we'd still have to carry 6 CBs for Lee to make it.

Or they'd have to put Bush down as a FS again, which could very well happen.

I'd be glad if Havner would finally get cut and not taken back. He's still going on his high TD/catch ratio. That's pretty much all he ever did. Apparently that was enough to label him a "zone buster".

Donald Lee is gone.

Ryan Taylor you could always try to stash on the practice squad... Or convert him to FB-type guy. He'll be on the roster because of his excellent STs play, rather than his skills as a pass catchter/blocker, anyway.

That'll leave you with 4 TEs... A somewhat acceptable number, I guess, seeing that we're a team that actually doesn't mind carrying 3 FBs.

If they really, really think they can't take more than 3, I guess Crabtree might be gone, as well...

I can't read the article because the site is down right now. Sounds like another bad Bleacher Report article anyway. As others have stated, Havner got cut last year, and he was brought back only because of injuries. With the increased competition at TE, he is unlikely to make it. He may not even get a chance to compete. I would call him a longshot right now. Quarless, on the other hand, should make the team easily.

I think Brett Swain will make it if James Jones leaves. Swain is a very good special teamer and has shown a bit of flash at WR. If Jones comes back, then we will have an awesome WR group, with a second round draft pick as our #5. What a luxury. That would probably mean that Swain would be gone, though.

Lee will probably make it, and Nance will be gone. I don't understand why some people like Nance. He was signed last year after the Grant injury, and he did nothing. I agree with beast that Underwood will be gone before Lee. Rockmolder makes a good point about the pack needing to keep six CBs for Lee to make it, but I wonder if they will consider Bush to be a safety, in which case, Lee probably sticks.

It is all in how you define on the bubble.

I have always defined "on the bubble" as a guy with about a 50 - 50 chance of making it or being cut. Traditionally they are the last of a group that may be kept such as the 10th O-lineman, 9th DB, 8th LB, 5th WR, and the next guy in line at that position. They are also the key camp battles.

Examples would be Brandon Jackson, Korey Hall, and Pat Lee.

You may disagree with my examples but make your 53 player list and you come up with about 10-20 players on the bubble

On the bubble is not some guy who has more than a 50% chance of being cut. Nobody is going to say Jay Ross is on the bubble.

Guys like Robert Francois, Grahm Harrell, and Anthony Levine have the safety net of being practice squad eligible. They are a special category.
They may be cut but they have a chance of still being around.
