Chicago Bears linebacker Urlacher sacks Green Bay Packers quarterback Rodgers during the first quarter of the NFL NFC Championship football game in Chicago Reuters
Last month, Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher raised eyebrows with his contention that the Bears, not the Packers, are the best team in the conference. During a surprise appearance Thursday on ESPN 1000′s Waddle & Silvy, Urlacher was given a chance to say that he was merely “playing to the crowd a little bit” when he said what he said.
And Urlacher opted not to say that.
“I think we are better,” Urlacher said.
Oops.
“You know, every game we played with them last year came down to the wire,” Urlacher added. “You know, a few plays here and there and it goes our way, but they made those plays. Last year they made those plays and hopefully this year we’ll make those plays. That’s just the way most games are in the NFL and whoever makes those key plays is going to win the game so we didn’t make them. Last year they did, but I think talent-wise and athletically and coaching-wise we stack up well with everyone in our conference.”
So there you have it, Packers fans. Your team may be getting the rings, but Urlacher thinks that the best team didn’t win the Super Bowl, because in his view the best team didn’t win the qualification game.
