Yeah, if Jones leaves there doesn't appear to be much challenge to Swain. I know we have a practice squad guy and probably will have some undrafted free agents, but Swain is likely in if Jones is gone.

Jennings, Driver, Nelson, Cobb and Swain. That makes 5. I said they only compete for a spot if Jones take an offer from someone else.

For that reason alone, they should keep Jones. The more competition the better

Jordy Nelson will be a free agent after this season. I feel like management probably wants to keep him over Jones, or else they would have extended Jones by now.

I said something along these lines to my friend yesterday, that in a couple years we might be looking at Driver and Jones gone but Finley being counted amongst the receivers and keeping the majority of the tight ends we have now. You would have Jennings, Finley, Nelson, Cobb and maybe Swain or someone else at receiver and Quarless, Williams, and Crabtree.

I think McCarthy and Thompson will look at who helps the team most and what gives them the best set of weapons, not necessarily what they need to fill traditional numbers at each position.

Let's not forget though that 23 TD passes went to WRs vs 5 to TEs. As much as everyone seems to love Finley, he only got 1 TD in 5 games. Not at all knocking Aaron's style as he's the best QB in the NFL today, but he's a WR guy. I'd much rather have quality WRs than quality TEs because this O needs to be built to suit (and protect) Aaron.
