http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/40442/power-rankings-top-10-nfl-owners

Thanks to John Clayton, the Packers Ownership model ranks 3rd among ESPN's "expert panel". Had Clayton included the Packers as even last on his ballot they would have been 2nd.

The article is too long to paste here. Because they only looked at top ownership it contains a lot of praise and little criticism.

The McCaskys were tied for 13th.

John's logic makes little to no sense.. so they are publicly owned with an exec board.. to me.. that makes more sense than a single entity making decisions that may be emotional or biased in a single mindset.

They have an owner.. just not a conventional owner. Ask the Dodgers if they would rather have the stability of a community owned franchise or what they have experienced?

"I couldn't vote for the Packers because it is a community ownership, not a normal ownership," Clayton said. "It's not as though one owner makes the decisions and has to stand up for the praise or criticism. Assigned the chance to vote for ownership, I felt more comfortable voting for individual owners or family owners."

It seems like a dumb reason to make a stand. I could see if the article was on the "best owners," but it doesn't really bother me what these guys think.

That's what I thought as well. I don't understand why Clayton just disregarded our ownership because it is different. Kinda sad really... I think the security, transparency, and group reasoning that result from our unique situation are all good things.

Maybe some Packer fan made fun of John's ponytail. 😉

Frankly one of the best things about Packers structure is the openess.

They are not afraid to tell anyone what is going on.
Al Davis won't even show his partners the books.

The benefit of having a single "owner" is in making quick, emergency decisions. That's not really a necessity for an NFL franchise.
That said, the Roonies are very successful, as is Kraft. But imo, alot of that goes to their connections in business politics, etc. Their establishment connections. When Kraft took over that team, it was a major influence in their rise to significance.
The Packers imo, have always been controlled by the Jesuits.
If I'm not mistaken, the Roonies also own or have owned horse racing tracks, which is a violation of the NFL's policy, vis a vis gambling and proximity to organized crime.

Hard to beat the Rooney family. I'm not surprised or dissapointed that we ended up below them. I would've liked to see the Pack at nr. 2, though.

Wilf might've gotten a low vote from me, as well.

I find it interesting.
The GB model is so well thought of today in the wake of the success that GB has had since the mid 90's. And yet I remember a lot of media criticism of the way the Exec Comm ran things back in the late 70's or 80's.
Get a solid President and GM and let them do what they were hired to do and you will be thought a success no matter who you are.

Here is a couple of questions I don't want to take the time to research.

Which of these owners is considered to be hardliners when it comes to negotiating with the players [strike]union[/strike] association?
Which owners are a part of the "old guard"?

Rooney family
Robert Kraft
Packers' exec. comm (Mark Murphy)
Mara/Tisch
Jeffrey Lurie
Steve Bisciotti
Jim Irsay
Jerry Jones
Arthur Blank
Woody Johnson
Pat Bowlen
Bob McNair
McCaskeys
